4 Religion Key Words (Ch ): Introductory Rites: the part of the Mass that unites us as a community and prepares us to hear God s word and to celebrate the Eucharist Liturgy of the Word: the part of the Mass in which we listen and respond to God s word Liturgy of the Eucharist: the part of the Mass in which the death and Resurrection of Christ are made present again; our gifts of bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Christ Concluding Rite: the last part of the Mass in which we are blessed and sent forth to be Christ s servants in the world and to love others as he has loved us Consecration: the part of the Eucharistic prayer when, by the power of the Holy Spirit and through the words and actions of the priest, the bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Christ. Liturgy of the Hours: a public prayer of the Church made up of psalms, readings from Scripture, and Church teachings, prayers and hymns and celebrated at various times during the day Holy Day of Obligation: a day we are obligated to participate in the Mass to celebrate a special event in the life of Jesus, Mary, or the saints Sacramental: blessings, actions, and objects that help us respond to God s grace received in the sacraments Conversion: a turning to God with all one s heart Sin: a thought, word, deed, or omission against God s law Reconciliation: the sacrament by which our relationship with God and the Church is strengthened or restored and our sins are forgiven Conscience: our ability to know the difference between good and evil, right and wrong Anointing of the Sick: the sacrament by which God s grace and comfort are given to those who are seriously ill or suffering because of their old age
