1 The Silk Road: from Xian to Kokand during the Han Dynasty y
2 These programmes on The World of Ancient Art have been designed for students and the public. They use material on the web to show the wealth of information thatt is available. They are visual with many images and minimal text. The url given for each image enables users to learn more about any subject. Particular attention has been given to highlighting g g both the scholarly websites and the public resources of social networking sites, Wikipedia, and Google Earth/Maps. The first programmes begin with the Great Riverine Cultures of antiquity. Programmes on other parts of the ancient world will be phased in during All will be updated regularly. The World of Ancient Art ( is being designed as a web-based collaborative research platform, initially for the School of Archaeology and the Ashmolean Museum, in the University of Oxford. When firmly established it will welcome contributions from scholars and the public. As part of the Beazley Archive s ( ongoing research in ICT for cultural l heritage ( the site will use emerging technologies to deliver scholarly information in accessible formats to a global community of users.
