1 Karma Yiwong Samten Ling Tibetan Buddhist Centre Inc Sandy Creek Road Molong Newsletter August 2017 Dekhung Gyaltsey Tulku Rinpoche HE Dekhung Gyaltsey Tulku Rinpoche recently presided over a retreat at Karma Yiwong Samten Ling giving teachings on Mahamudra and Phowa. The retreat involved considerable practice overseen by Rinpoche-la. No pressure Rinpoche s wisdom, experience and realisation was evident and Kalzang-la did a wonderful job of translating. Mind you, as Rinpoche s English continues to improve very quickly (at times he taught directly) he may not need a translator for much longer. 2 Construction activities Last newsletter we mentioned some of the progress made with physical development at the Centre. Compassion Hall steps Male dormitory / Office Verandah for Rinpoche s quarters Translator s caravan 2 nd roof We are also pleased to advise that the base for the 16m tall Reconciliation Stupa was finalised. From this to this which means progress to date of this much Unfortunately due to a lack of funds we have not been able to progress onto the next stage as costs were greater than guess-timated. $24,000 will allow construction of the walls for the next stage We try not to be too focused on requesting funds but realistically if we don t ask people don t realise we have a need and that there is an opportunity to support Rinpoche s plans for the Centre. We are developing a poster we will be using to launch a Building Fund drive. Once we circulate it, please feel free to share it with likeminded people who may wish to support this Dharma facility in their practise of generosity. Dharma activities When Rinpoche is not in attendance, the Centre offers: Meditation classes / practise opportunities Page 2 of 6

3 Tuesdays at Molong - 27 Riddell St from 5:30pm Wednesdays at Orange - 1 Hill St from 6pm Thursday at the Centre - from 6pm Bank Street Molong daytime meditation classes from 12:00pm. All these classes are suitable for beginners and experienced meditators. Phone for further details. A day retreat focusing on tranquillity meditation plus a Chenrezig practice is held one Sunday a month (usually the last Sunday each month). Day workshops/sessions with senior students endorsed by Rinpoche including Norbert Bohler and John Davies. It is a Centre policy that no one should miss out on an opportunity to learn or practice Dharma for financial reasons. For this reason, although we request a donation or contribution if your circumstances don t allow it just attend anyway. 5 Membership Due to the Retreat and other factors, we (read, I ) forgot to chase up Friend Of The Centre (FOTC) and Membership renewals for the 17/18 year which were due by 30 June. If you wish to renew (and you know who you are) please deposit your fee to the Administration Account asap with your name and Mship. Thanks (and sorry I am late with a reminder) Extension of Gompa Ongoing and planned building activities We have lodged a Development Application (DA) to extend the Gompa. The inside has been stripped and earthworks scheduled for the 23 August in preparation. Quarters for HH Karmapa It is customary to have accommodation for HH Karmapa at all Kagyu centres should His Holiness visit. We would like to have something nice in place. A building layout has been determined under Rinpoche s guidance and we will begin the approval processes including Council and the Rural Fire Service. Contributions toward funding this project are welcome. Compassion Hall A DA for the Compassion Hall toilets (which will also house the solar power system) are with Council and hopefully approval will be forthcoming shortly. A 4 metre tall 1,000 arm Chenrezig statue is to be located near Compassion Hall. Watch this space Retirement village We mentioned previously that 5 acres of land have been purchased nearby to build a Kagyu retirement village.
