FREMONT ADULT SCHOOL EL CIVICS PROGRAM: GOVERNMENT LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
p. 1 I am writing to express my concern about the health care. We need health care insurance because because of these reasons. In my opinion, having health care is so much expensive. We need free health care insurance. It should be available to any one coming to the united States. For example, we came here and that time did not have health care insurance. I would like your support in providing us health care insurance. Thank your for taking the time to answer this letter. Sincerely, Amandeep kaur
p.2 I agree with your recent article about friendship. Nobody cannot live without friends. I think friendship is very important in our life, because without it, you will go mad without having someone by your side. You will go crazy without having someone to always be there for you when you need them, someone to confide your secrets to, someone to laugh and smile with. The most important thing, I think is the loyalty, if you want your friend and you want to keep his friendship for all life, you will have to be trustworthy and honest. No relation without trust and honesty can go well long. So friendship cannot be bought, it is priceless. It is one of the most valuable thing a human could have. Elly
p.3 I am writing to you about the rail system from the Bay Area to Southern California. I do not agree with your endorsement for statewide proposition number 1. From a long-term point of view, the rail system from the Bay Area to Southern California is very important. I think that it will save energy and reduce pollution. Thousands of people driveon the freeway every day. This not only wastes gasoline, but it also makes a lot of pollution. So I think that in the long-term interest we should vote Yes for this measure. Nian Yanqiu
p.4 I agree with your recent article about the Bilingual Education. I think it s a good education for every one. And I like to study with Bilingual Education. Bilingual Education helped me to be successful, and I think it s an important program. Thank you for taking the time to read my letter. Zainab mirzai
p.5 I am writing to you as a concerned citizen about broken street lights in my community. There are some problem with street lights in my community. People can not walk around the community to exercise after dinner because it is really dark. I would like your help in fixing the street lights in my community. Thank you for help. Sincerely, Ping Jiang
p. 6 Women for President! I think having a woman for President is good. There is enough proof that women can do the same work as men. They are doctors, teachers, attorneys, social workers and so on. There is even a woman President in Germany and she does as well as a man and in some ways even a little bit better. So why shouldn t there be a woman President in the United States? I think we women have proved enough in the past that we can do the same job, with the same quality, as men. Franziska Women for President? I think a woman would be a good President, but people have other opinions. There are jobs that women do as well as men, for example, in healthcare; but there are also things, such as physical work, that men can do better. Women are good in making decisions, even though some people think they make them too fast. Also, people think that women are not organized, but I think they are just differently organized than men.
p.7 October 31, 2008 I agree with your recent article about healthcare is a right guaranteed by the Constitution, and I think that Healthcare should be available to anyone coming to the United States for the first two years. When my family and I came here, we did not have any healthcare, and I felt nervous about our kids. Since they were so young, we needed to have healthcare for them right away. Now I do not have worry about them because they have health insurance. I believe that providing health insurance is very important for us. Patel Girish
p. 8 November 1, 2008 I agree with your article about Proposition 7. Renewable energy is very important to me, and I think that it can help the world in the future. For many years, people have taken advantage of our energy supply and that has brought us to an energy crisis, especially considering population growth and constant housing developments. Now we need to make solutions for this issue and proposition 7 is the only one way to correct the problem. Some people oppose proposition 7 because we would pay more money for energy, but it is a guarantee for a better future for the next generations. Solar energy is a renewable resource and would cause less pollution to the environment. Thank You, Javier Mendoza Fremont, CA
p.9 October 29, 2008 Hi my name is Akiko Richman. I think that saving energy is important. I have been here for four months. I feel comfortable living in America, but I think a lot of Americans use a lot of energy. If people save energy, we can prevent global warming. Global warming will cause seawater to rise so, some people from islands will have too move. Some of the reasons are power station resources have limits, for example, oil, gasoline, charcoal and coal. If everyone saves power, we can use those much longer. Finally, we can also save money. It s not difficult. If you leave the room, turn off the light. When you go to the supermarket, use your own reusable bag. Saving energy is not too difficult. We can help everyday and at all times. Then we can save our beautiful planet earth. Akiko Richman
p.10 October 31, 2008 I agree with your recent article about health care. I think health care is important because some people cannot afford to pay their hospitalization and medication bills. Most of those are homeless families, unemployed people and people with diseases because of poor healthcare. I insist if the government provides a healthcare for the people living in U.S., there will be fewer problems. Because some of them cannot afford healthcare and all of them will feel good if their wish were granted. I believe this topic needs more attention and give consideration for other people. Sincerely, Arlene Buanaventura
p.11 October 31, 2008 I agree with your recent article about public transportation. I think it is very important because some people do not have a car and do not know how to drive. The economy is too bad. The price of gasoline is very expensive. If people do not us their cars, the pollution will reduce. Pollution is not good for health. I think public transportation is convenient for most people. They can go anywhere they want to go. Even those who do not have a car. They can save money and time. In the future, the air will be fresher than before. The World will be beautiful. Christine Lai
p.12 October 31, 2008 I agree with your recent article about pubic transportation. I think that pubic transportation should be convenient for anybody who does not have a car and is a teenager. I was 20 years old when I moved here. I could not drive a car and felt it was inconvenient to go to school. When public transportation is developed everywhere, I could take a bus to go anywhere. I felt it was easy, and I was happy. I graduated from Fremont Adult School, and now I am a cashier in SOGO. If public transportation did not develop, I could not go to school or work. Public transportation is very important and to keep the environment clean and without pollution and fresh. People do not need to drive and have more time to relax after getting off work. Some people cannot afford gas because it is more expensive than a bus ticket. That is very important to have enough busses. Crystal Yan
p.13 October 28, 2008 I read your recent article about the pollution and your call to save energy. It is my opinion too that we all are responsible for this one world we live in! We all have many rights, many basic rights for ourselves, but we also have duties: duties for the world, duties for poor countries and duties for poor people. For example many people in Africa; they have little or no rain and they drink dirty water. So they get sick and often they die because they have no money to buy expensive clean water. And I don t want to drink so much chlorinated water. Every soda I drink in a restaurant tastes so bad! Chlorine is not good for our health. Nobody should drink chlorinated water. But the resource of water is getting less and less and the price is getting higher and higher. Most drinks are made of water. For a second example, have a look at the auto industry and everyone s car. The guidelines are too high and more and more emissions make the air very dirty. We, the animals and the plants need clean air for our health. The smog in summer and a big hole in the ozone layer are the consequences. I repeat your call and have a special request for all of the people who have enough money so they do not have to drink chlorinated water: Please turn off the lights in the room you re not in. Show responsibility. Thank you. Ilona Schulz
p.14 October 31, 2008 It s an important, I would like to express my opinion about bilingual Education. I think that bilingual Education should be available to anyone coming to the United States for the first two years. When I came to United States two years ago, I didn t understand any English and didn t know how to write in English. I go to Fremont Adult school. But for me was too difficult. First, I didn t have a car; school was far way, and the public transportation was a problem. After that, I made a schedule, and I am going now. Already I am a good student and my writing and speaking have improved. I think ESL programs are important. Esmail Mohammad
p.15 October 31, 2008 I am writing to you as a concerned citizen about the recycling trash in my community. In our apartment, there is no recycling bin, so we have to mix all kinds of trash into one garbage cart. Some of our neighbors bring their recycling things to another apartment s recycling bins, so it is very inconvenient. As I know, each year we lose a lot of land for landfills. That is very bad and unhealthy for us, our children and the environment. So I really need your help in getting the separated cans for recycling at this location. It is very important for us now and the future. I am looking forward to your answer. Jinfang
p.17 October 28, 2008 I agree with your recent article about Health Care. It is very important for me to support a Health Care program because I have two children who need medical attention. In this country it is expensive to have medical care, especially for people with low income. So I think this program is necessary and also it is our right to provide medical Insurance to people who need it. I remember when my first daughter was born, I was a housewife and my husband had a job that paid minimum wage, so we could not afford the bills from the hospital. I applied for medical Insurance, and they helped me to pay the bills. I believe that every person in U.S. needs Health Care. Maria Paredes
p.18 October 30, 2008 I agree with your article about the right of free speech. As you know, people from different countries move to the USA. Most of them do not have any idea about the right of free speech. I agree with you and in my opinion the people that are living in any country must have a right to free speech about the economy and government. I think that the right of free speech is our first amendment to our constitution. Sincerely, Masih
p.19 October 29, 2008 I think that ESL programs are important. This school saves me. I have been in the U.S for 4 months. I couldn t speak English and couldn t write English. But now I can do it a little, and Fremont Adult School is free. I think this school system helps many people. Thank you. I think ESL Education programs are important. Thank You so much. Sincerely, Masumi Burford
p.20 October 31, 2008 I agree with your recent article about the economy issue. The economy is very important to everybody right now. Because the economy is related to country s development, many jobs are depending on the economy, and it affects our everyday life. The recent financial crisis is a problem in all over the world. This is one of the reasons for the economy s decline, and another reason for the increase in unemployment in this time. If people don t have any job, then we can not afford to live a comfortable life. So I think economy is an important one. Than Sein
p.21 October 30, 2008 I agree with your last article about saving energy. Why should we save energy? What can we do to save energy? I think that it is important to tell people how we can have a better world by saving energy. I read in your article that we can save energy by turning off all the electric appliances that we are not using. We should be more concerned about our planet because we live on it. I hope the people that read your article, like me, think and do something about it. To save energy will help to make a better world for the next generations. I believe that it is important to save energy to live well and protect our planet Earth. Sincerely, Isabel Hernandez
