Introcuction Introduction Lent is a time for inner reflection and renewal. It is a time for letting go and discovering new avenues of blessings. Most of all, Lent is a time of preparation for spiritual resurrection and transformation. As you join us in reading, studying, and meditating this Lenten season, you are preparing yourself for something very special something that only you can invite into your life. The messages of this booklet focus on Bible characters who were called to reach higher, to go beyond their comfort zone. We invite you to become a new person, to let go of old ideas and ways of being, and to completely accept yourself as a beloved child of God. Our prayer is that your life will be transformed, that each day will be a new and glorious day to express the Christ Spirit within you. And we hope this booklet will inspire you on this spiritual journey. As always, we are here to support you with prayers of love and faith. 4 1st Day of Lent Ash Wednesday February 6, 2008 When the Lord saw that he had turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, Moses, Moses! and he said, Here I am. Exodus 3:4 What is God calling me to do? What unique blessing do I bring to the world? As I ask this question, I think about the things that make me unique the skills and talents I possess, the strengths and characteristics I have within me. One thing I know is that I am a child of God, and as God s child, I can be sure of a divine plan for my life. Lent is a perfect time to let go and reflect on what it means to be a child of God. As I begin this Lenten season, I search within my heart for direction. I give thanks for the wisdom of Spirit that is continually guiding me on my path in life. And I give thanks for the traits and skills that make me the special person I am. I know that I have a unique role to fill, and I am open to the direction of Spirit in whatever way it comes to me. Throughout this sacred season, I will remember to keep my focus on God. I will take time to go within, to listen for the call of Spirit. I will focus on what is important to me in my spiritual life and allow my divine path to unfold. I know that as I do, I will feel closer to God. I know, too, that my life will be transformed in powerful ways. I am a child of God, and I open my heart, mind, and life to the call of Spirit within me. 4

2nd Day of Lent Thursday February 7, 2008 An angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. Matthew 1:20 Hearing divine guidance a call to action can be unnerving or even seem inconvenient. If I let my creative mind conjure too many what ifs or not nows, I may be too afraid to act on my guidance. If my concern is about the unknown future, I can replace any thought of fear with thoughts of faith. This positive approach helps me think clearly and trust in God, my source of good. Sacred moments of communion with God open my mind to a positive perspective. During these times of reflection, I can sort through the concerns of my heart and make sure I m accurately hearing God s call. I feel the assurance of clarity, and this awareness fills me with a deepening sense of peace. I trust the spirit of God to keep me serene and secure and to provide all that I need as I move forward on the path that fulfills my divine purpose. My heart is serene and my path is clear as I listen to God s call and respond with faith and confidence. 5

3rd Day of Lent Friday February 8, 2008 Then the Lord spoke to you you heard the sound of words but saw no form; there was only a voice. Deuteronomy 4:12 In my quiet times of prayer and meditation, I open my mind and heart to inspiration and I consciously listen for guidance. My will is to do God s will, and by being attentive to the ways in which God speaks to me, I can find my purpose and follow whatever plan is unfolding for my life. I know that God is unlimited and that there are infinite ways in which God may speak to me. As I become alert to various possibilities, I may hear the wisdom of God in the words of a child, read a message on a billboard that speaks to me, dream a dream that prompts me to act, or simply know in the stillness of my heart what I should do. During this Lenten season, while nature waits to hear the call to bud, to bloom, to hatch, and to awaken to spring, I, too, listen for the next call for my life. Whether it is simple or profound, it will be a call that touches my heart and fuels my ability to accomplish God s will. It will be a call that makes a difference in my life and the lives of those I care about. And it will be the call that moves me forward on my life s path and guides me closer to fulfilling my purpose. My spirit awakens to God s call and prepares me to accomplish God s will in my life. 6

4th Day of Lent Saturday February 9, 2008 Joshua then said to the Israelites, Draw near and hear the words of the Lord your God. Joshua 3:9 How do I find my purpose? How do I know when God is calling me to a higher experience an awakening, a learning process, or a time of rebirth? When these questions arise in my life, I may look around me for answers. Perhaps I ask my friends and family members what I should do or scour the newspapers for a job or volunteer opportunity that speaks to my soul. I may feel that I have to figure everything out for myself, but the truth is God is my ever-present guide and strength. God is my spiritual compass when I set out on a quest to find my purpose. How do I draw near to God and listen for direction? I can pray. Spending time in the silence of prayer helps me focus on God and become receptive to divine inspiration. As I pause to center myself in prayer, I listen, not for an audible voice but for an inner assurance. As I open my awareness and relax in these moments, I trust that God will speak to me in a way that I can understand and at the time I need to hear it. A flash of inspiration or a quiet urging may come to me at any point in prayer or in my daily activities. I will hear the call and know what direction to take. I commune with God in prayer and awaken to divine guidance. My purpose is revealed. 7

God I am listening, 8

1st Sunday February 10, 2008 Listen, My Beloved, I am calling. Do you hear Me? I am calling you to come up higher. I am urging you ever onward and upward in your understanding and in your relationship with Me. I am calling you as you sit in the stillness of prayer and when you are working, resting, or playing. When you listen, you will hear Me. You will hear Me in the voice of a loved one, in the laughter of a child, in the tears of one who is grieving. I am the rustling of leaves in the breeze, the glory of the setting sun, the mystery of the stars. What are you seeking? Happiness? Peace? Health? Joy? What will satisfy your soul? Ask, seek, find. Look for your good in My love, My life, My abundance. I am the answer to each question of your heart. I am the fulfillment of your dreams. I am calling you. Come to Me, Beloved. 9

5th Day of Lent Monday February 11, 2008 But Moses said to God, Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and bring the Israelites out of Egypt? Exodus 3:11 Like Moses, there may be times in my life when I question God or say, Why me? I may feel lost or confused and ask, Is this really what I m supposed to be doing? I know that questions like these are not unusual, for they reflect my human nature and my need for answers when I am faced with a particular change or challenge. Change is a natural part of life. Some changes may be small and easily made. However, others may be life-altering events that call upon inner resources of strength that I have never called upon. Regardless of the situations I face or the actions I am called to do in life, I can be sure that I am being divinely loved and cared for along the way. In challenging moments and in every moment, I have all the resources I need to meet the circumstances I face, for I am one with God the living, loving, all-providing presence that abides within me. God is my strength, my support, my source of courage. With God, I know that all things are possible for me and for those whose lives I touch. In this awareness, I face each change, each new adventure in my life with an open heart and a faith-filled, positive outlook. I greet each day of my life with faith and know that all is well. 10

6th Day of Lent Tuesday February 12, 2008 Then King David went in and sat before the Lord, and said, Who am I, O Lord God, and what is my house, that you have brought me thus far? 2 Samuel 7:18 When I hear God calling me to action or to take on a new project or activity, my first reaction may be to question. I may question my worthiness, my ability to succeed, and my willingness to try something different. Do I have the right talents and skills? Will I succeed? Is this really mine to do? I think of a child who is uncertain of the world that extends beyond the front door. When prompted to try something new, the child may retreat to a safe, comfortable place and ask, Why? Do I have to do this alone? A caring adult lovingly encourages the child to explore the opportunities that lie ahead. God encourages me in my life in much the same way. I am called to learn new lessons, to be of service to those around me, and to live a God-centered life. If I have thoughts of doubt, fear, or anxiety, I can turn to God within, release the doubt, and discern the action that is mine to take. I feel encouraged to try something new, to step outside of my comfort zone. I am assured that God is my constant companion in each new experience, and with this faith, I am confident of success. I turn within to God, my constant companion, for assurance and encouragement. 11

7th Day of Lent Wednesday February 13, 2008 At once Jesus perceived in his spirit that they were discussing these questions among themselves; and he said to them, Why do you raise such questions in your hearts? Mark 2:8 At times I may question how the spirit of God can bring about a needed blessing. Asking questions can be a wise thing to do, for it is the asking that invites answers and clarity. However, the moment will come for me to cease trying to achieve the desires of my heart on my own or to stop second-guessing the guidance I have received. In this moment, I act upon the gentle urging of God s spirit within me. If I pause to question whether I am doing the right thing, I do not let any doubt result in inactivity. I put feet to my prayers and proceed with the knowledge that God is with me, guiding me every step of the way. My awareness of God s presence within fills me with such peace! It strengthens my faith and empowers me to let go of any feeling of apprehension about outcomes. Sure of my inner guidance, I can listen to any concern that another person might raise and know that the wisdom of God will help me discern what is mine to do. Knowing that the questions of my heart lead to the answers of Spirit, I am at peace. I trust the gentle guidance of Spirit within to reassure me and direct me in every activity of my day. 12

8th Day of Lent Thursday February 14, 2008 Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him, saying to him, You of little faith, why did you doubt? Matthew 14:31 I have accomplished many things in my life some with ease and some that required great effort. Each time I finish a task, I have a feeling of satisfaction and I gain more selfconfidence. Sometimes, however, the tasks before me seem nearly insurmountable, and I may be tempted to quit before I even begin. When the details of a task seem overwhelming and I feel that I am in over my head, I take time to turn in prayer to God within me for strength to succeed. Like a runner who keeps his or her eye on the finish line, I keep my eye on my goal and have faith that God is with me every step of the way. Taking one step at a time and completing each step before going on to the next, I finish, knowing that I have given my best. No matter what the goal, whether it is one I have set for myself or something another expects of me, I know that God is my source of wisdom, inspiration, strength, and peace of mind. And when I am taking steps toward a goal that I believe to be inspired by God, my faith is strong that I will be guided, strengthened, and provided with all I need to succeed and prosper. I accept God s will as my will. I have faith that I will succeed. 13

9th Day of Lent Friday February 15, 2008 Then Moses answered, But suppose they do not believe me or listen to me. Exodus 4:1 How many times have I been like Moses and doubted myself? Where do these doubts or feelings come from? Perhaps these are the moments when I am feeling separated from God, moments when I lose sight of my spiritual nature. In truth, I am never separate from God. God is always with me as a guiding light and a protecting presence. Just as a child turns to a parent or caretaker for reassurance and help, I can turn to God for reassurance and direction in my life. My prayer times with God enable me to regain my sense of self and assure me that I am divinely loved and cared for. As I let go and trust God, I no longer doubt myself or feel inadequate. I no longer have the need to question my actions or beliefs. In prayer, I feel a sense of peace and see myself as a free, confident, and capable child of God. I know, deep within my heart, that I am never alone. The knowledge that I am never separate from God is a wonderfully reassuring blessing. I carry this knowledge with me wherever I go and in every task, learning experience, or relationship that I encounter. In this awareness, I face each day with a confident spirit and a faith-filled heart. I am one with God and divinely cared for in every circumstance. 14

10th Day of Lent Saturday February 16, 2008 On the day when the Lord spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt, he said to him, I am the Lord; tell Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I am speaking to you. But Moses said in the Lord s presence, Since I am a poor speaker, why would Pharaoh listen to me? Exodus 6:28-30 Prayer attunes me to God and helps me discern God s will for me and God s direction for my life. The inner promptings I receive may not always be easy to follow, however. Practical concerns might jump out at me, making me question if this is the right course of action to take. I may even focus on my limitations rather than believe in my potential. When this happens, I can take my concerns and my uncertainties to God in prayer. As I release any resistance to God, I gain new insight into my purpose. The good that God desires for me waits in life experiences that I may not even anticipate in this moment, and I want to be open to these experiences. As I mentally picture the blessing I desire, I affirm that I will experience either this or something better. I am loved by God, and it is my destiny to lead a happy, meaningful life. In claiming my purpose and walking the path designed for me, I discover blessings that fulfill and exceed my dreams. I release any feeling of doubt, and I align myself with God s plan of good. With faith, I follow my inner guidance and expect good results. 15

Reflection Reflection 16

2nd Sunday February 17, 2008 Listen, My Beloved, Today is a day of letting go. Let go of the questions of your heart the whys, the what ifs, and the hows. They are not essential in this moment. Let go of the urge to analyze and ponder. Release any worry. Release everything to Me. Let it all be lifted from your shoulders like a feather on a breeze, and let your mind and heart be light. It is in the letting go that you find strength. Let go of the past; you are free to experience this moment to its fullest. today. Release your concerns about tomorrow, and live for Give all else to Me. Relax in My presence. Let My love sustain you. Let My peace be enough for the day. Let go 17

11th Day of Lent Monday February 18, 2008 Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid. John 14:27 Jesus words fill my heart with peace. As I hold these words close in thought throughout the day, I reconnect with divine love within. I am able to clear my mind of any internal dialogue of worry or fear. This Lenten season is a sacred opportunity to purify my thinking. Time spent in prayer helps me hold to my faith in God and expect right outcomes. As I pray, I make room for positive, constructive thoughts and for abundant blessings to flow into my life. I know God s will for me and for my loved ones is to experience vitality, strength, safety, and joy. Nothing can separate us from the love of God and the peace and faith that grows ever stronger within us. As I tend to my daily responsibilities, I choose to affirm the truth I am divinely equipped to handle any situation with grace. This realization helps me build a faith-filled approach to life. By thinking positively, I establish an attitude of peace and self-assurance with which I can rise above any apparent difficulty and become part of a solution. Grounded in faith, I go to meet my good, knowing that my proactive, positive thoughts and actions make a difference in my world. Confidently I accept God s will of good for me, and I trust that every circumstance is unfolding in perfect order. 18

12th Day of Lent Tuesday February 19, 2008 Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Luke 22:42 I know that I cannot always control the experiences that present themselves in my life, but I find strength, courage, and empowerment in the realization that I have choices. In any situation, I have the ability to choose my perception and attitude. Whenever I am presented with a situation or obstacle that seems to keep me from experiencing my life fully, I can pray. Taking a deep breath, I close my eyes and connect with Spirit within. In these moments, I remind myself that thoughts have power, and the quality of my thoughts determines the quality of each experience. When I take time to connect with God, I can respond to any situation in a positive way. Through prayer and meditation, I am able to maintain a positive outlook even in the most challenging of circumstances. My faith in God is renewed and regenerated as I look for the good in every experience. If given the choice, I know there are experiences that I would rather not have, but what a comfort it is to know that no matter the circumstance, I can choose to view and react to the events in my life with faith and hope in my heart. My peaceful moments with God give me the strength, courage, and confidence to carefully choose how I perceive and react to any experience. 19

13th Day of Lent Wednesday February 20, 2008 If this cannot pass unless I drink it, your will be done. Matthew 26:42 Your will be done. What a powerful prayer this is! I set an intention now to be open to the will of God even at those times in my life when I am being prompted beyond my comfort zone. I can look beyond my self-imposed limits and open my heart and mind to new experiences. I know that God is with me in every circumstance and that all things are possible because I am one with God and empowered by God. Still, there may be times when I feel like acting the part of a petulant toddler and kick my heels rather than accept an undertaking that I m being called to do. If I allow a sense of insecurity or poor self-image keep me from doing and being my best, I might believe that doing nothing is better than trying and failing. But as I keep my faith centered in God, I am able to see the good and to forge ahead. As I move through this Lenten season, I will be open to guidance and willing to accept the will of God. With faith and absolute trust in God s goodness, I can say, Not my will but yours be done, and enthusiastically walk my life s path to the good that awaits me, confident that all is in divine order. I seek and do God s will as I expect and accept the good that awaits me. 20

14th Day of Lent Thursday February 21, 2008 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for you are with me. Psalm 23:4 I know where I can go whenever I am facing a new or uncertain situation I go to God. As I pause in prayer, I reconnect with the one Presence and Power in my life. My awareness of the presence and power of God fills me with faith and the realization that I am never alone. God is always with me as a source of strength and a safe haven. As I take time to still my thoughts in the silence of prayer, I take a deep breath and release any worry or disquieting feeling. This activity of letting go during these sacred moments fills me with a sweet feeling of relief, and my responsiveness to God s powerful presence within me deepens. I trust this divine presence to guide me and keep me strong and secure. Every new level of trust in God that I achieve is a milestone for me. God s presence within me builds a new sense of faith and peace in my heart and mind. With God, I have the strength and courage to move through any situation with confidence and ease. I surrender my concerns to God my strength, my protector, my guide and I follow the path ahead confidently. 21

15th Day of Lent Friday February 22, 2008 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without a trace of partiality or hypocrisy. James 3:17 When I find myself in the midst of making a decision or standing at a fork in the road, I tune in first to the wisdom and guidance of the spirit of God within me. Whether navigating a career path, choosing someone to spend the rest of my life with, or embarking on any new adventure in my life, I am assured of clarity and success as I turn to God within. Allowing God s spirit to fill my awareness every thought, word, and action I gain an inner confidence, a certain feeling or knowing that the choices I make are divinely guided. It s as if I have a light shining through me, illumining my path, leading me step-by-step to a greater understanding of my circumstance. This light the light of God will never flicker or fade. If I am uncertain about what my next step should be, I turn to the light of God for clarity. This light is constant, solid, steady, never wavering. Like a beacon of hope, the light of God always gently guides and directs me on my path. The spirit of God illumines my mind and my path, guiding me moment by moment in the right direction. 22

16th Day of Lent Saturday February 23, 2008 Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom for the future. Proverbs 19:20 Life is a continuum of choices that enrich my spirit, mind, and body. Accepting the call to stretch myself, to seek new horizons, or to make simple changes in my daily routine takes courage and determination. When I listen to the still small voice of God within me, I know that I can accomplish great things. I may need to start out taking small steps, but the more I listen and the more I try, the stronger I become. Prayer and meditation help me discern what I need to do if I feel concerned or confused. I know that as I heed the guidance I receive in sacred moments alone with God, I take the necessary steps that will deepen my spiritual life and help me attain my goals with ease. As I continue to listen to God and follow my guidance, I build a life rich with meaning. I gain confidence and assurance as I look to the future because I know I am establishing a healthy, trusting relationship with God. Wherever I am, whatever my circumstance, I know to turn within first and seek God s guidance. As the way is revealed before me, I consciously accept the call to prove myself and grow spiritually stronger. I accept God s call to my greater good and willingly leave behind those things that no longer serve me. 23

Reflection Reflection 24

3rd Sunday February 24, 2008 Listen, My Beloved, You have a willing spirit and a heart ready to accept and explore your good. Your life is an adventure of faith and discovery. Open your heart now to new blessings infinitely greater than anything you can imagine. They are yours to claim. As you embark upon your journey Open yourself to new adventures. Trust yourself to navigate uncharted terrain. Fortify yourself through your oneness with Me. You are a light in the world, and you inspire those you encounter along your path. Live your truth, Beloved. Become who you were created to be. Search for your life s purpose, passion, and direction and rejoice as you accept your highest good! 25

17th Day of Lent Monday February 25, 2007 For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. Jeremiah 29:11 There is a future for me one of hope and fulfillment, for I have accepted God s call to do and be my very best. There are days when I daydream about the details, wondering how the particulars of my life will unfold. If I feel uncertain about my life s journey, I remind myself to stay calm and remain focused on God. As I establish healthy spiritual habits in my life, I am able to honor the path I am on. Prayer, meditation, journaling, and living a God-centered life are ways that I can take care of my spiritual well-being. When I begin my day focused on God, I find inspiration and guidance throughout my day in nearly everything I do. Ideas come to me from the books I read, the songs I hear, or even the words spoken by friends, family, or strangers. I am a magnet for my good, drawing to me the right people, the perfect circumstances, and always at the appropriate time. Each of these experiences teaches me to trust in the activity of God and prepares me to execute God s plan for my life. Living my life focused on God gives me strength, courage, and faith to honor the good that is unfolding. While I may not always understand why experiences occur as they do, I trust that God is in the midst of all, guiding me in ways that fulfill me today and assure me of a future filled with hope. God has a wonderful plan for my life. Each day, I am filled with hope as I act on God s guidance. 26

18th Day of Lent Tuesday February 26, 2008 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalms 119:105 Many people use night-lights in their homes that shine softly in the dark. If someone should awaken during the night, there is a light to dispel the darkness and illumine the way through the house. I, too, have a light one that illumines my mind and guides me through the events of my life. As I discern and accept what is mine to do, I am following my inner guidance. I am letting my inner light shine to brighten my path. I know it is the light of God that shines within me that is a light of faith in my life. Through prayer and meditation, I keep this light shining and live my life courageously. One way I can know what I should do is to pay attention to my internal, eternal light of faith. If ever my light seems to dim or I wonder if I m following the right path, I take time to pray and meditate, which renews my awareness of my inner light, and once again my direction becomes clear. During these weeks of preparation for Easter a day of great joy and reawakening I will remain alert to the light of faith that shines within me. I will follow my guidance, accept my calling, and stay on the path that leads me to my highest good. I am led by the light of God. My path is clear, and I am safely directed to my highest good. 27

19th Day of Lent Wednesday February 27, 2008 Your kingdom come. Your will be done. Matthew 6:10 I find comfort in the message of these words, knowing that I can experience heaven today right here on earth and that I can do this by doing God s will. I affirm that I am ready, willing, and able to do God s will. But how do I know what God s will for me is? How do I know when I m on the right path? I may sometimes think that God s will for me must be something big, like eradicating world hunger or bringing peace to a nation at war. However, through my times of daily prayer and meditation, I realize that God s will is for me to be a good person with a positive attitude and to do good things for others. I share my loving, positive attitude with others whenever I can by simply extending kindness and compassion to each person I meet. I make time each day to toss out spiritual pebbles sharing a heartfelt good morning with someone I pass on the street, praising a child in my life, or encouraging a friend or family member through a moment of uncertainty. In tossing out spiritual pebbles, I create a ripple effect. As I bless one person, he or she is inspired to bless another, and the wave moves outward. This ripple effect is how peace, goodwill, and abundance spread around the world. With one heartfelt greeting, one smile, one positive thought at a time, I take part in transforming lives. This is God s will for me, and I am ready, willing, and able to scatter spiritual pebbles. I help transform the world into a kinder, more peaceful place as I express kindness and compassion to the people in my life. 28

20th Day of Lent Thursday February 28, 2008 And Mary said, My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior. Luke 1:46-47 As I awaken to each new day, I greet the day with a cheerful heart. I move through my day accepting the call to move higher and choose words and actions that bless and lift the spirits of others. Knowing that I have God s help in making the most of each moment of the day, I choose to meet every circumstance with a positive outlook, with joy in my heart. Today I can express positive inner qualities that come from the spirit of God within me. I live with a spirit of gratitude in my heart, accepting the opportunity to bless the people around me and to be receptive to the blessings that are returning to me. Deep within my soul, I nurture a spirit of rejoicing, and the events of my day flow in perfect order. Whether I handle a life-changing circumstance or routine activities, I trust God to guide and uphold me moment by moment. And I am grateful for God s companionship along the way. What greater cause for celebration and rejoicing can there be? My heart rejoices in the spirit of God within me as I accept and celebrate the blessings that lie ahead today. 29

21st Day of Lent Friday February 29, 2008 Look, I have set before you an open door, which no one is able to shut. Revelation 3:8 Unlimited possibilities lie before me. What a wonderful thought to keep in mind! Regardless of the concerns or challenges I have faced in the past, a new door is opening before me now a door to unlimited possibilities. I can choose to stay in the past and hold unproductive thoughts, or I can choose to walk through my open door with faith and an awareness of God, my source and my supply. What is my door opening to? Is it the experience of a new relationship, a move to a different location, a new job or hobby? Is it taking a class, finding time for prayer and reflection, experiencing a deeper relationship with God? I am ready now to walk through the door to my good. I am ready to visualize my good and to have faith that it is coming to me in the right time and way. I am ready to express greater peace, joy, strength, and love. I am ready to experience a more enlightened life, a life in which I am a partner with God. The door to my good is opening now. I give thanks for this glorious truth, and I joyfully look forward to the blessings that are coming to me. I am ready now to experience the blessings of God and the unlimited possibilities that lie before me. 30

22nd Day of Lent Saturday March 1, 2008 And do not keep striving for what you are to eat and what you are to drink, and do not keep worrying.... Instead, strive for his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well. Luke 12:29, 31 How comforting it is to know that I need not be concerned about my physical needs! Knowing that the kingdom of heaven is a state of mind, I ask myself: What does it mean to enter into this experience? Living in the kingdom of heaven is a practice I am willing to make, for it is much like planting a garden I have to work at it, but the end result is glorious. I practice living in the kingdom of heaven by spending time regularly in prayer. I begin my prayer time by clearing my mind of any worry. In the garden of my mind, I remove the weeds thoughts of fear or worry and prepare myself for new life as I open myself to the spirit of God within, the source of all blessings. I plant seeds of hope and faith, trusting in the promise and potential of these seeds. God knows what is required for them to grow. In my times of prayer, I am guided to nurture my seed thoughts as they fully develop. My faith grows into beautiful expression, and I see the fruits of my labor. I am living in a garden of faith, peace, joy, and abundance sustained by my oneness with God. This experience is heaven on Earth, and I see that by focusing on God within, I am taken care of. I am content and fulfilled. I focus on my oneness with God by planting seeds of faith and watching them mature into abundant blessings. 31

Reflection Reflection 34

4th Sunday March 2, 2008 Listen, My Beloved, My love for you knows no limitation, and you are always tenderly enfolded in My care. Seek My presence as you explore your divine potential. If you feel that you are wandering, know that all paths lead to Me. Trust Me to guide your steps. You can be sure that I am with you every moment as wisdom that awakens you to deeper insights into new possibilities understanding to see the broader picture strength to rise above any challenge courage to keep on keeping on and confidence that all is well, that wonderful blessings are unfolding for you. Know that each desire of your heart is a calling from Me to You. Follow the good desires of your heart, Beloved. 35

23rd Day of Lent Monday March 3, 2008 See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way. Mark 1:2 God has prepared the way before me. I trust in this truth as I progress on my path in life. God knows what I need even before I ask and guides me on my path of good. My part in following my life s path is to let go and trust the wisdom and power of God within me. Sometimes this can seem difficult to do. I may hold on to old ideas or beliefs. I may feel that I know what is best for myself and my loved ones. But as I work through these feelings and beliefs and learn to let go and trust God, I open my life to new experiences and new avenues of personal growth and success. I am a confident, capable child of God, and in this awareness, I know that I have nothing to fear. I know, too, that I can face each day with peace in my heart and with an expectation of unending good. Realizing that God is with me, I find that ideas and opportunities are revealed to me, I see the world from a new perspective, and I explore new avenues of self-expression and abundance. By letting go and letting God work within me, I open my life to spiritual transformation that blesses me in countless ways. 36 I explore my life s path with a positive outlook and an unwavering faith in God.

24th Day of Lent Tuesday March 4, 2008 Be strong, be courageous, and keep the charge of the Lord your God, walking in his ways. 1 Kings 2:2-3 How tempting it can be to maintain the status quo! I could avoid the unknown and remain in my comfort zone. I could continue on a familiar path, even though I know deep in my heart that it may not be the right one or that it might need some adjustment. But is this for my highest good? It takes courage to step away from long-established patterns of living and doing that no longer serve me. It takes strength to build new habits, new ways of thinking that help me explore a richer, fuller life. It takes prayer to help me discover the inner qualities that come from God qualities that always await my full expression. Through the presence of God within me, I have the courage to open myself to change. Courage is part of my spiritual makeup, and it will uphold me as I move forward through any change. God s presence within me is my strength. With God, I walk the path ahead free from fear of the unknown, ready to embrace the wondrous blessings that await me. With God to guide me on a new path, I step forward with faith. I am strong and courageous as I walk a divine path today and every day. 37

25th Day of Lent Wednesday March 5, Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6 My perspective on life is often a human one; I see the world around me through a customized filter, and I interpret events based on my life experiences and my current level of awareness. However, there is another perspective available to me a spiritual perspective that enables me to see things in a different light. As I enter into quiet moments of prayer, I let go of my human perspective and focus my thoughts on God. In this time of precious communion, I experience the freedom that comes from having an open mind and a willing heart. I become receptive to divine guidance. I feel optimistic about the path ahead. In my interactions with people I encounter each day, I act from divine love within me, from a place of oneness with God. I have awakened to a spirit of love within, to a deeper sense of compassion. Knowing all people are entrusted to God s care, I am certain that right outcomes are unfolding. Prayer opens the way for me to discern a higher, more complete perspective one that comes from my oneness with God. I experience greater levels of understanding, and I am guided along my right path. I open my mind and heart in prayer, and I follow the guidance of God.

26th Day of Lent Thursday March 6, 2008 Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth, and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all day long. Psalm 25:4-5 When I was a child, there were many times that I would have to wait. I had to wait for summer to arrive; wait for school to start; wait for my birthday; wait for directions before starting a test. Although it was difficult at times to continue to wait, the waiting was generally rewarded. As an adult, I still find times when it is necessary to wait. For example, when I pray for guidance, I may not get an immediate answer or it may seem that I m not getting an answer at all. At these times, I can trust that all is in divine order and exercise my patience. I have faith that I will recognize the answer when it does come. My life s journey is a process. As I seek to know and do God s will, I unconsciously follow a pattern of listening, questioning, surrendering, and accepting what God speaks to my heart to do. As I pray and wait, my guidance becomes clear. It is up to me to recognize and accept my guidance. Lent is a time of preparation for resurrection. During this holy season, I can do my part by faithfully waiting in the stillness of prayer for clear instruction as to what path is right for me. I have faith in God to guide my steps. I wait for and recognize my guidance when it comes. 39

27th Day of Lent Friday March 7, 2008 With my whole heart I seek you. Psalms 119:10 When I want to more fully understand my relationship with God, I may search outside myself for ways to create a closer connection. I may read books or listen to experts tell me how to achieve a closer walk with God. God is spirit, an invisible, intangible, dynamic presence all-knowing, all-powerful, and everywhere present. Most important, God is not out there somewhere beyond me God is within me. While I may look outside myself for ideas or suggestions about how to have a greater understanding of God, to truly expand my relationship with God I must turn within. As with any friendship, I establish my relationship with God as a priority. I interact, converse with, and give thanks for the loving companionship. My relationship with God is important to me, so I nurture it by devoting time and attention in the form of prayer and meditation. I become still and listen, and in the silence I grow ever more aware of God s presence within me. Finally, I express my gratitude for the activity of Spirit, demonstrating health, harmony, and happiness through me. I seek to know God more fully, and I am growing in my awareness each day. 40

28th Day of Lent Saturday March 8, 2008 Ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete. John 16:24 There are times when I don t fully understand what I really need or don t know exactly what to pray for. I may fear praying for the wrong outcome or that my prayer may be self-serving. How do I know if my deep desire is consistent with God s will for my life? Spending time in the silence is the answer. During my prayer times, I share my concerns with God and entrust them to God s loving care. As I release them to God, I also release any temptation to retrieve them or to continue to worry about them. Then and only then do I feel the sweet relief of letting go and letting God. In this new state of mind, I feel God s presence more fully, and I am assured that only good can come to me. By remaining aware of the presence of God within me and every circumstance of my life, I feel the mists of confusion lift and I gain a new vision of what I need to do and how I need to do it. God knows the deep desires of my heart. I ask in faith, believing that I will receive, and I experience the joy of knowing that perfect answers are unfolding for me. With strength of spirit and joy of heart, I move ever onward toward the fulfillment I seek. Knowing that God will answer and guide me on the right path, I ask in faith, and I receive my good with joy. 41

Reflection Reflection 42

5th Sunday March 9, 2008 Listen, My Beloved, You are unique, and I cherish you. You are a treasure to Me. You grow more precious each day. You have many talents gifts that you may wisely use in cocreating a life of abundance, joy, and wonder. Use these gifts, My Beloved, and you will receive even more to enrich your life. You are part of Me, and I am part of you. Your potential is unlimited. You are a positive, productive expression of life. Your light and love fill your world, creating beauty and making a path for others to follow. Listen, My Beloved to your breath, to your heart, to the sounds of peace that surround you and assure you that I am there I am with you. We are one. Embrace life and move forward to revel in your good and to reveal your true potential. I love you, and I am with you always. Take wing, My Beloved, and soar... 43

29th Day of Lent Monday March 10, For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:21 The word treasure is defined as something of great worth or value. So I ask myself today, What are my treasures, what do I value or think is important in my life? My treasures can be many things: the love of family and friends, abundance and success in my life, employment in which I feel useful, time spent in nature or with pets, opportunities to learn and grow. All of these things and more are treasures that I value. All of these things and more fill my heart with joy and my life with good. As I search within my heart today and think of the treasures large and small that are a part of my life, I feel so grateful. I know that they have blessed me in wonderful ways some have given me joy, some have taught me more about life and about myself, some have challenged me and helped me grow. One of the greatest treasures I have is my relationship with God. And in this time of prayer and reflection, I give thanks for this precious treasure. I take time in the silence to deepen my relationship with God and to focus on spiritual treasures as well faith, love, hope, peace, and joy. Knowing that I have these blessings and more gives me peace and fills my heart with joy. I give thanks for the treasures large and small that fill my life each day.

30th Day of Lent Tuesday March 11, 2008 Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16 What does it mean to share my light with the world? Where does it come from and how can I express it? If I think of God as the source of light and humanity as a giant prism, I see that we cocreate an infinite spectrum of colors. The light that flows through each facet of the prism through each person results in a unique hue. By choosing to remain open to divine light, I allow it to shine through me and bring out my individual beauty. One of the simplest and most effective ways to do this is through prayer. As I attune myself to the presence of God in the stillness of prayer, I am bathed in divine light and love. I appreciate my uniqueness, and I become more aware of the talents and gifts I have to offer. I am guided to the highest and best ways to contribute my thoughts and energy to the world. As I express myself in positive and productive ways, I continue to illumine the truth of my being and share that truth with the world. By honoring myself and my beliefs, I contribute depth, color, and brilliance to God s infinite palette of light blending perfectly with all creation. I am a radiant expression of light and love, integral to God s plan of good. Willingly I share my God-given individuality. 45

31st Day of Lent Wednesday March 12, 2008 When Joseph awoke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him; he took her as his wife. Matthew 1:24 We teach our children to be obedient, and as good citizens we obey the laws of our community and nation. Doing the right thing helps us feel that we are in control of our lives and making a contribution to society. As Joseph followed the direction of God, he must have finally felt comfort in knowing what to do, even though he may have at first resisted. Whether or not Joseph questioned the guidance he received, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him. How do I determine what I should do? Do I willingly obey my heart, or do I question it and try to reason things out? As I keep my faith centered in God, I know where my guidance comes from and that it will always be available to me. And I know that as I listen to and follow my guidance, I will do the right things. As I continue on this Lenten journey, and the remainder of this time of preparation, I will remain open to following the path before me and I will expect unlimited blessings. With the spirit of truth as my guide, I walk in faith, knowing that the wisdom of God lights my way. 46

32nd Day of Lent Thursday March 13, 2008 The human mind may devise many plans, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will be established. Proverbs 19:21 Some days, an idea is the beginning of a series of events that appear to magically align, and my day s goal is accomplished easily and effortlessly. On these days when my path is made clear and my journey swift and productive, I know I am following my divine guidance because I know that the ease with which I accomplish things is only possible through the activity of God. On other days, I may choose to take action only to be presented with challenges or obstacles one after the other. What is the difference between a divinely guided day and a challenging day? The answer is simple prayer! Regular times of prayer lead to days that are inspired, guided, harmonious, and productive. With this awareness, I make the first appointment of my day with God, and in quiet communion I seek first God s purpose for me. When I am prayerful, I am able to listen clearly and receive God s guidance, to be patient as I discern the plan and purpose for my day, and to express my oneness with God in my thoughts, words, and actions. It is when I allow my human mind to guide me or to force the outcomes, that challenges begin. When this happens, I can step back, breathe, and gently remind myself to let go of my human idea and focus instead on the divine idea. As I first attune myself to God, recognize my guidance, and discern my purpose for the day, I prepare myself to create a reality that is synchronized with God s plan for me a divinely guided day! I make my first appointment of the day with God. I align my thoughts with God s purpose, and my day unfolds easily and effortlessly. 47

33rd Day of Lent Friday March 14, 2008 Jesus said to him, If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? Follow me! John 21:22 Every person has an individual path to follow. How many times have I allowed someone or something to capture my attention and distract me from what I know to be my right path? What can I do to stay on track and maintain my focus on God and on God s good plan for my life? I can remember Jesus words, Follow me! As I follow the practice of Jesus to spend quiet times in prayer and reflection, I open my mind to receive divine guidance. I center my attention on God my true guide. I place myself in God s care, knowing that in every matter, I will receive guidance that keeps me securely on my path and leads to marvelous blessings. As I follow Jesus footsteps, I grow more aware of the activity of God within me and in my life. Daily I take time to refocus my attention on God and on my unique path. These moments refresh my body, mind, and spirit and give me the strength, inspiration, and motivation to accomplish good things in my day, to be a blessing wherever and whenever I can. I look ahead with an expectant heart to the wonderful experiences that await me. With Jesus as my Way Shower and God as my guide, I follow the path that is right for me. 48

34th Day of Lent Saturday March 15, 2008 A scribe then approached and said, Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go. Matthew 8:19 What faith the scribe had when he said these words to Jesus! How sure he was of Jesus and of His purpose. In awe of the faith of the scribe, I look within myself and examine the strength of my faith. Throughout this time of study and reflection during Lent, I have had many opportunities to look within and to learn more about myself, to question my goals and values, and to observe my patterns of thinking and acting. And these moments have been so valuable to me! As I think about my prayerful moments with God, I am reminded of a caterpillar that must spend time in a chrysalis before it emerges, free and whole, as a glorious butterfly. I see my prayer time as a chrysalis experience, as a quiet time, a personal time to let go and trust God. In these prayerful moments, I release all of my worries and concerns to God. I open my heart to divine wisdom and insight. I embrace the love of God in its splendor. Through my quiet moments with God, my faith grows. With this newfound faith, I understand my purpose, I am blessed with divine ideas, and I see my path being revealed before me. Like the butterfly, I am transformed. My prayer times with God fill me with unending faith and hope. My faith is renewed through my quiet moments with God. 49

Reflection Reflection 50

Palm Sunday March 16, 2008 Listen, My Beloved, You are like the butterfly. You wrap yourself in threads of glorious thoughts and positive prayers and let your spirit simply be. And in this state of being you grow. Like the butterfly, you are beautiful your inner beauty reflects in your outer experience. Let your beauty shine through your thoughts, words, and actions. Let it change you, transform you little by little opening your mind and heart to the wonders of the universe. Just as the caterpillar is transformed into the glorious butterfly, you are transformed as you allow yourself the freedom to be to be the healthy, whole, creative, and unique creation you were meant to be. Come with Me on this sacred journey called life. Join Me now in new opportunities for growth and renewal. Experience unlimited blessings and magnificent moments of peace and understanding. We are one heart, mind, and soul and in this oneness let your spirit soar to new heights of joy, peace, and love. Be with Me Walk with Me My Beloved and be transformed. 51

35th Day of Lent Monday March 17, Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2 I am my own person, guided by an inner light. Keeping this in mind, I choose not to allow prevailing sentiments in the world around me to influence the choices I make. With the Christ Presence within as my guide, I discover my own truth. My selfworth, my direction, and my purpose in life are all directed by my inner guide. All that is required of me to realize my potential is to have an open, willing heart. In sacred times of prayer, I release any preconceived notions and simply rest in the stillness. Centered in the Christ Presence, I awaken to new possibilities. With new spiritual insight, I begin to view my life with new understanding. I realize that the divine plan for me is greater than anything I could design for myself. By seeking first the wisdom and direction of the Christ Presence within, I discover a spiritual approach to life that is powerful and transformative. I no longer look to outer sources for validation or guidance, and I no longer rely on my own limited perspective. Instead, I go directly to my source. In any situation, I tap into this endless reservoir of constructive ideas and intelligent solutions. Fully attuned to the Christ Presence, I view seeming obstacles as opportunities for growth. I feel guided and supported as I step forward to meet my destiny. I am transformed by the Christ Presence within and filled with renewed hope.

36th Day of Lent Tuesday March 18, 2008 So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new! 2 Corinthians 5:17 My faith in the Christ Presence within is renewed, and I am free to release all things that no longer support me on my current spiritual path. I choose to see things in new and exciting ways. A photographer can capture a picture that reflects the best view of its subject. The image is framed perfectly through the viewfinder, and with the use of different lenses, focus can be brought to things that may otherwise be unclear. Using a zoom or wide-angle lens and a combination of filters, the photographer is able to render the image of his or her desire. Just like a photographer creates a picture, I can frame my life s journey through my spiritual lens. I can adjust the angle from which I view any experience and focus my energy on the positive aspects. Cropping out any areas that no longer serve me, I illuminate the picture of my life with the Christ light. If I have in the past looked at life through a negative, habitbound, fingerprinted lens, I now release that view. I empower myself with positive, life-affirming thoughts, words, and actions and choose to see each experience of my life s journey through my spiritual lens. Grateful for my increased awareness of the Christ within me, I express wisdom, strength, understanding, forgiveness, and peace as I continue along my spiritual path. Empowered with a life-affirming perspective, I see new opportunities for spiritual growth and understanding unfolding in my life each day. 53

37th Day of Lent Wednesday March 19, 2008 While you have the light, believe in the light, so that you may become children of light. John 12:36 The Christ light that Jesus expressed during His lifetime shines within me and within all people. Realizing this, I reflect on how I let this light shine. Do I cover my divine light in a cloak of negativity? Or do I choose to magnify my inner glow of light, love, and peace by practicing the principles that Jesus taught? In choosing the latter, I will reveal and express more of my true spiritual nature. I admire the unwavering faith and unconditional love of a child. With this in mind, I step forward and extend my light and love to others. I may offer a gentle smile, a heartfelt greeting, or a helping hand in a time of need. Each action I take radiates unconditional love, inner wisdom, and compassionate understanding. In quiet moments of meditation, I uncover my inner light and youthful exuberance. I let it shine as an expression of peace and love to reflect my inner light. As I do, I am transformed. Jesus was an extraordinary teacher and expression of divine light, inviting all people to participate in a brighter experience of light and life. I can continue to live the truth that He taught so many years ago and bless everyone around me. I am a child of divine light, living by the example of my Way Shower. 54

38th Day of Lent Thursday March 20, 2008 Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 18:3 How do I effectively become like a child? How do I enter the kingdom of heaven? There is such power in the pure heart of a child a power that draws to this little person the nurturing and caring that help him or her thrive and grow. My desire, my purpose, is to express this purity of heart and to live in the kingdom of heaven each day. The kingdom of heaven is an inner realm where God and all that God is abides. Love, peace, life, wisdom these are qualities of God s kingdom within me. In my personal prayer times, I open my heart fully to their expression, and my life becomes richer each day as they are reflected in my thoughts, words, and actions. Prayer helps me keep my feet firmly planted in the kingdom of God, and as I maintain a spirit of childlike wonder, I experience ever greater joy in the blessings God has for me. I am transformed mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually as I continue to embrace the divine kingdom within me. My life is transformed as I live in an awareness of the kingdom of God within me. 55

39th Day of Lent Friday March 21, 2008 The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light. Matthew 6:22 My eye is the way in which I perceive myself and the situations in my life. When my eye is focused on God and on the positive aspects of life, I open myself mind, body, heart, and soul to the indwelling light of God. By seeing circumstances with a positive eye, I can and do experience unlimited blessings. Today I choose to focus my eye on my health and on the many ways in which divine light works within my body. I see my body as a spiritual temple, filled with the light of God and infused with vitality, energy, and strength. I visualize divine healing light moving in and through every cell, tissue, organ, and system. With this focus, I maintain a positive outlook and have faith that lasting health is mine. The light of God is and always has been at work within me, and I am so grateful for this truth. I know that God s light is a powerful force of renewal and strength that is always available to me. I know, too, that as I focus my eye my faith, my thoughts, my perceptions on God, I allow this powerful healing light to work in and through me, and I am blessed. I focus my spiritual eye on the healing light of God within, and I feel peaceful, strong, and whole. 56

40th Day of Lent Saturday March 22, 2008 You were taught to put away your former way of life, your old self and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to clothe yourselves with the new self. Ephesians 4:22-24 I ve journeyed through this Lenten season with my heart open to hearing, accepting, and following the call of Spirit. I have learned more about who I am, what direction I am to take, and what my purpose is with each passing day. Just as shedding a heavy winter coat allows me freedom of movement, releasing old ideas or patterns of behavior opens me to new feelings of personal and spiritual freedom. And like the caterpillar that exchanges what is familiar to become a butterfly, I am willing to let go of what I know in order to experience the new. As I stay true to what is mine to do, transformation naturally follows. Whatever change is ahead for me, I am certain to succeed as I remain attuned to the voice of Spirit within me. I can look to the future with confidence and enthusiastically greet any change because I know that this period of growth and transformation is firmly rooted in my acceptance of God s call to my spirit. What an exciting journey the spiritual life is! I am ready and willing to see what awaits! I willingly let go of the familiar to experience new blessings, knowing that God is with me. 57

Reflection Reflection 58

Easter Sunday March 23, 2008 Listen, My Beloved, Today is Easter. Let your heart soar. Let wings of faith and freedom lift your spirit to new heights. This is a day of renewal. This is a day of celebration. This is a day to celebrate the new you! Today is a day of new beginnings a new life, a new sense of love and spiritual power, a new sense of freedom. With fresh understanding, you begin your life anew. You are transformed. You are a new expression of the Christ. Beloved, celebrate this day. Celebrate the new you! 59

On Wings More Delicate By James Dillet Freeman The butterflies go fluttering by. How do they know that they can fly? Had we been only crawling things, Would we know what to do with wings? I wonder. Still I think we might, For we too have our hopes of flight, Though of a different kind Since ours is mainly in our mind. We have to trust ourselves on less Than even air or emptiness On wings more delicately wrought Than butterflies mere wings of thought But oh, sometimes with what surprise How exquisitely high we rise! 60
