1 Year 8: RE Project One - Sources of Religious Authority Title: Where does religious authority come from? Timescale: This work MUST be handed in on the...at the beginning of your lesson Overview: In this task, you will identify the sources of authority within either Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism or Sikhism. You will then examine these sources in more detail for one religion. Objectives: To successfully complete this project, you will need to: Identify the important sources of authority for each religion. Explain the sources of authority for one religion. Demonstrate the knowledge gained during the research task. Detail: The project is made up of three tasks. To achieve a good level, you need to complete all parts to the best of your ability. Task 1: On pages 2 and 3 of this pack are a list of sources of religious authority. You need to carefully select these and write them into the correct places on page 4. Do this neatly as you will need to hand in your completed matching exercise. You need to complete this task in your own time using the internet or other books (you may want to use the books in the school library). If you want to use the internet, a useful website is: Task 2: Once you ve completed the matching exercise, you need to write a report on one of the world s religions. The writing frame on page 5 will help you to structure your report. You should not copy the writing frame word for word. Your report needs to explain the different sources of authority within the religion. Again, the BBC website ( is a good source of information. However, you should not get all your information from one source. A website which gives a useful summary of authority is: (choose Authority from the topic list and then select your chosen religion.)
