ol/newsid_ /newsid_ / stm?bw=bb&m p=wm&news=1&ms3=6&ms_ja vascript=true&bbcws=2 Watch the clip and answer the following... What do you think was the motivation behind this hate crime?
The UK is made up of many races, cultures and RELIGIONS... Before WW2 there were few people who followed a religion other than Christianity... WHY DID THIS CHANGE? The UK called upon members of the Commonwealth to help rebuild Britain. In the 60 s and 70 s there was a large influx of people from India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. This led to a growth in Muslims, Hindus and Sikhs.
Mind map some of the ADVANTAGES of living in a multifaith Think more back about to religion the advantages and of living in a It makes people think multi-ethnic their society own beliefs. to help you. It helps to stop religious conflict and tension e.g. Islamaphobia People can learn about other religions it can help them to see what religions have in common. The ADVANTAGES of a multi-faith.. People are more likely to be more understanding, tolerant, and respectful to other religions. New ways of living and enjoying life e.g. Yoga, dancing, meditation... RELGIOUS FREEDOM religious groups will be able to live peacefully together. You should be able to come up with AT LEAST THREE ideas of your own.
Grades C You will be able to identify at least 3 advantages of living in a multi-faith
It has not been easy for the UK to become a multi-faith There have been many instances INCLUSIVISM over the years of religious tension and religious motivated violence and AND hate crimes (like in the starter activity). EXCLUSIVISM Most believers (and nonbelievers) in the UK accept that lead to further people should be allowed to follow whatever religion they issues in want. However some people are not so sure and think that their.. religion is the right one and that EVERYONE should follow it. There are THREE main views... EXCLUSIVISM INCLUSIVISM RELIGIOUS PLURALISM Only ONE religion is is Many right completely religions the rest right. lead are to Other WRONG. religions God should be RESPECTED but people People Members should of the have should be encouraged to FREEDOM RIGHT CONVERT. faith to worship should any CONVERT religion OR the none. rest.
When believers from different religions live together in one place there can be issues if one religious group tries to convert another. Should members of a religious faith try to convert other to their faith? Watch the clip from the Simpsons She of little faith-( ) What issues may arise from this? Conflict, disagreements, offense and tension could arise leading to violence, hatred, abuse, hate crimes and discrimination.
Grade B You will be able to explain why religious conversion may present issues within a multifaith
Read the problem opposite. What issues are raised by multifaith marriages? How might these problems lead to conflict and tensions between religions? Dear Deirdre, I'm a Christian guy who loves a Muslim girl and we have been in a relationship for about 3 years. Everything was going smoothly until we had a discussion about marriage and future plans. The problem is that I am sure her parents would not agree to us marrying. The only option is to get secretly married and reveal it at right time to her parents (this might prove costly as I'm sure her family would react badly to the news). Secondly, the issue is how our kids will be raised. Though she agreed that she doesn't mind our kids being raised Christian, she said she wouldn't help me in doing so. I personally feel that kids should be nurtured under a single religion and both the parents should actively participate in this activity. I don't know what to do and am really confused about the whole thing. I ve tried talking to her but we always end up arguing and the issue is never resolved. Tom from Leeds.
Grade B You will be able to explain why interfaith marriages may present issues within a multifaith
Though multi-faith marriages are believed by some to create issues in a multi-faith society they are also believed to have advantages and help promote community cohesion. Use List this 3 ADVANTAGES information to and 3 DISADVANTAGES of answer the following... multi-faith marriages. ADVANTAGES Multi-faith marriages can They promote racial harmony as they show help different promote religions community and cututres can co-exist and are compatible. cohesion and racial harmony They bring two different religious families I agree/disagree together, making bonds because... between religious communities. Some people may They promote tolerance, understanding and agree/disagree respect between two with different me religions. because... DISADVANTAGES They highlight the differences between religions cultures and practices. E.g. which ceremony to follow. They can cause religious conflict and tension. E.g. Couples are unsure which religion is the best for their children to follow. The two religious families may object to their children marrying someone of a different faith, causing religious tension.
Grade A-A* You will be able to evaluate whether multifaith marriages help promote community cohesion within a multi-faith
Now place the post-it on the progression TREE assess your OWN progress today... List 3 things you have learnt from today s lesson... RED (bottom of tree) I am working at a grade C I was able to identify at least 3 advantages of living in a multifaith YELLOW (middle of tree) I am working at a grade B I was able to explain why religious conversion and interfaith marriages may present issues within a multi-faith GREEN (top of tree) I am working at a grade A-A* I was able to evaluate whether multifaith marriages help promote community cohesion within a multi-faith
