Section 1 World Religions This section has two questions for each World Religion. You should answer both of the questions on the World Religion you have studied. Answer either Buddhism or Christianity or Hinduism or Islam or Judaism or Sikhism. Section 2 Morality in the Modern World This section has one question for each of the optional issues. You should answer all parts of the question relating to the issue you have studied. Answer either Gender or Global Issues or Medical Ethics or War and Peace. Section 3 Existence of God This section has one mandatory question. You must answer all parts of the question in this section. The skills of knowledge and understanding (KU) and analysis and evaluation (AE) are being assessed in this paper. When answering each question you should note the number of marks allocated to each skill as indicated after each part of the question. PB *X265/10/01*

2 SECTION ONE WORLD RELIGIONS Candidates must answer both questions for their chosen World Religion. BUDDHISM Reminder: You should answer both of these questions if you have studied Buddhism in the World Religions Unit. 1. The Goals What we are today comes from our thoughts of yesterday... Dhamapada 1 14 (a) What do Buddhists understand by the natural law of cause and effect? (b) Give two examples of skillful action. (c) Describe the Third Noble Truth. (d) Compassion is a very difficult thing to show in the modern world. Would all Buddhists agree? Give two reasons for your answer. 2. The Means (a) State two other objects you might find at a Buddhist Shrine. (b) Why do Buddhists worship? (c) What is the Fourth Noble Truth? 3 CHRISTIANITY Reminder: You should answer both of these questions if you have studied Christianity in the World Religions Unit. 1. The Goals Lord teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples. Luke 11 v 1 (a) State two things Christians believe about prayer. (b) Give two examples of community prayer. (c) Describe what happens during an infant baptism ceremony. (d) It is better to be baptised when you are an adult. Would all Christians agree? Give two reasons for your answer. 2. The Means Jesus cried out in a loud voice, Father! In your hands I place my spirit! Luke 23 v 49 (a) State two ways Jesus suffered in the last week of his life. (b) Describe one way Christians remember the death of Jesus during the festival of Easter. (c) Give two examples of individual Christian service. (d) Beliefs are more important than actions. The Human Condition (a) State one of the main forms of Brahman worshipped by Hindus. (b) Describe the Hindu law of karma. (c) What do Hindus understand by Samsara? (b) Describe one difficulty a Muslim might experience when trying to keep the Five Pillars in Scotland. (c) In what ways should a Muslim prepare for Salah? 7 SIKHISM Reminder: You should answer both of these questions if you have studied Sikhism in the World Religions Unit. 1. The Goals (a) State the name of the first verse in the Guru Granth Sahib. (b) What do Sikhs believe when they say that God is the source of all things? (c) Describe what happened when Guru Nanak was invited to the house of Malik Bhaago. (b) What is meant by media stereotypes? (c) Women are still treated unfairly in places of worship. Would all religious people agree? Give two reasons for your answer. (d) Describe the historic view of gender rights in the Developing World. (e) What religious teachings support equal opportunities in the Developing World?
