Often only you and God will know of your innocence (1-17) 2. Life after death was not fully revealed to, or understood by Job (18-22)

G. Zophar's first response to Job (11:1-20) and Job's fourth Speech; A response to Zophar (12:1-25) 1. Ridicule has no place in godly counsel (11:1-12) 2. THE SECOND CYCLE OF SPEECHES: JOB'S THREE FRIENDS MUST PROVE HIS TOURMENT STEMS FROM SIN LEST THEY BE SUSCEPTIBLE TO THE SAME FATE AS HE (15:1 21:34) v Eliphaz's second response to Job and Job's fifth Speech: A response to Eliphaz: The arguments Intensify (15:1 16:22). Job continues to defend his innocence (17:1-16) 1. Eliphaz turns up the heat (15:1-16) 2. Foolish counsel is often derived from personal experiences rather than from the Wisdom of God (15:17-35) 3. Job reprimands his "Miserable comforters" (16:1-5) 4. As with Job we are not privy to God's Sovereign purpose (16:6-22) 5. Job is in utter Despair: At times it feels as if no one understands us, not even God (17:1-15)

B. Bildad's second response to Job (18:1-21) and Job's sixth Speech: A response to Bildad (19:1-29) 1. Is God going to change His ways for you Job? (18:1-5) 2. Bildad views Job as hopeless as he rails against the wicked of whom he considers Job to be among (18:5-21) 3. Job senses an ulterior motive amongst his friends (19:1-5) 4. Feeling totally abandoned, even from God (19:6-22). This is reminiscent to a lesser degree of what Jesus Christ would latter endure (refer to: Matt.26:56; 27:46) 5. Job maintains his innocence (19:23-24) 6. Looking beyond the temporal, Job puts his trust in the Redeemer (19:25-29) C. Zophar's second response to Job (20:1-29) and Job's seventh Speech: A responce to Zophar (21:1-34) 1. Zophar squares with the theme of Psalm 37 "The wicked never prosper" (20:1-27) 2. Eliphaz's third response to Job (22:1-30) and Job's eight Speech: A response to Eliphaz 1. Eliphaz hurls unfounded and speculative accusations at Job (22:1-30) 2. Job knows that God is Sovereign (23:1-14) 3. However, Job questions God's Sovereignty/choices. We are taught to say God is Sovereign, but do we really trust His Sovereign will for our life? (23:15-17)

D. Job's final protest of Innocence: Job hope that God will act on his behalf (31:1-40) 1. Job makes a covenant by an oath of innocence to a list of sins (1:23) 2. Job's claims range from being innocent of the sins of lust, deceitfulness, adultery, mistreating his servants, despising the poor, the widow, and the orphan, idol worship, hating his enemies, and turning away a stranger... (24-34) 3. Again Job pleads for God to hear him (35-40) VI. ELIHU THE SON OF BARAKEL THE BUZITE RESPONDS TO JOBS SITUATION (32:1 37:24) A. Elihu scolds Job's three Friends (32:1-22) 1. God interacts with us whether we realize it or Not (33:1-33) 1. God uses suffering in our lives to chasten us (1-11) 2. God speaks to His people through a number of different ways (12-33) C. Elihu maintains that God is Just (34:1-37) 1. God is a just God, and only those in sin suffer, therefore sense God is not sinful, Job must be (1-15) 2. Elihu does not consider God's Grace (16-37) D. God is not affected by our sin nor by our good Deeds (35:1-16) 1. Elihu is wrong. God is affected by our actions (1-8)

2. Elihu is half right. God will answer a cry for deliverance if it is sincere. Also God does want His children to be humble and free of pride in order to receive all that He has for us (9-16) E. Elihu declares God's Goodness (36:1-33) 1. Elihu claims to speak for God (1-4) 2. Elihu further claims that all who obey and serve the Lord will prosper, and those who oppose Him will suffer great affliction (5-21) 3. Elihu rightly proclaims God's Sovereignty and Majesty (22-33) F. A poetic description of the power of the Almighty (37:1-24) 1. God's voice as the thunder (1-5) 2. God is in control of all creation (6-18) 3. The need of a Mediator between God and man is made real in these verses (19-24) VII. THE LORD REVEALS HIS OMNIPOTENCE TO JOB AND CHALLENGES HIM (38:1 41:34) A. God makes no apology to Job, nor does He answer Job's question of "why". Instead the Lord put things in perspective for Job (38:1 39:30) 1. God speaks of the creation (38:1-15) 2. God asks Job about the forces of nature (38: God question Job about the occurrences wildlife (39:1-30) B. The Lord gives Job an opportunity to respond, and again challenges Job to answer His questions (40:1 41:34) 1. Who can rebuke God, or prove Him wrong (40:1-2) 2. Job wisely chooses to remain silent (40:3-5) 3. Who can over rule God's decrees, or change what He has set in place (40:6 41:34)

VIII. JOB CONFESSES, REPENTS, AND IS BLESSED (42:1-17) A. Job repents of his Presumption, and God judges his three friends (1-9) 1. Job submits to God's perfect Sovereign Will (1-6) 2. The Lord concludes that Job's three friends where not speaking what is true concerning Him as Job had done (7-8) 3. Job humbled himself, put aside any pride or resentment, and prayed for his three friends, and the Lord then restored Job's losses greater than before (9-15) 4. Job died old and full of days (16-17).
