2 Page 2 Keynote Speaker: Randal Rauser Randal Rauser is Professor of Historical Theology at Taylor Seminary in Edmonton, AB where he has taught since He is the author or coauthor of ten books including Is the Atheist My Neighbor? (Cascade, 2015) and What on Earth do we Know About Heaven? (Baker, 2013). Randal lectures widely on the topics of Chris an worldview and apologe cs. He also blogs and podcasts regularly as The Tenta ve Apologist at randalrauser.com. Chris ans for Life: Four Steps to Discipling the Next Genera on Approximately 70% of Chris an youth age stop going to church. While many return some years later, a growing number of these dropouts are never returning. This presents a crucial challenge for Chris an schools and churches to reconsider how we are raising up disciples in the faith and how we can be er prepare Chris an youth for the challenges that lie ahead. To that end, Randal Rauser considers four steps to discipling the next genera on while preparing them for the challenges of our contemporary age. Session 1 Doubt is Not the Enemy: Reconsidering the Nature of Faith The challenge begins with the nature of faith itself. Genera ons of Chris ans have been taught the importance of certainty in convic on. But what does the young Chris an do when he/she finds those beliefs once firmly held now dissolving into doubt? In this honest talk, Randal challenges us to begin to view doubts and ques ons as part of a healthy, growing faith. Session 2 They Think We re Crazy: Renewing Convic on in a Skep cal World A second major challenge is found in the discovery that many people outside the church view Chris an belief as not only false, but quite literally as ridiculous. In this talk Randal offers some thoughts on preparing young Chris ans for the challenges of radical skep cism. Session 3 Keeping the Main Thing the Main Thing: Rediscovering Mere Chris anity Many young Chris ans find themselves facing the deep ques on: Which Chris anity? A er all, we are called not merely to follow Jesus but to be part of His church. But which church? In this talk Randal offers some direc on on rediscovering the concept of mere Chris anity, a faith rooted in Christ while open to dialogue on the many secondary points of disagreement among Chris ans. Session 4 There Must Be More Than This: Rejuvena ng Radical Discipleship One of the biggest problems of all is that many young Chris ans have been raised with an understanding of the gospel that was founded on the disciple as consumer. The superficiality of this vision becomes evident when those young people grow up and begin to ask how they can change the world. In this final talk Randal offers resources to cri que the consumer culture and its impact on the church by rediscovering the radical call of Chris an discipleship.

It is of prudent importance that we are aware and knowledgeable of the religions around us. What does it look like to teach world religions as part of a High (Grade 12) Chris an Ethics course? This seminar will be a crash course look at how one style of a world religions course has been structured. Teaching grammar to high school students is impossible? We will look at how to apply appropriate strategies and "fair" adapta ons that address student diversity, and discuss how to differen ate while keeping the integrity of the curriculum and the students intact. Connec ng with Students via Social Media and YouTube Jeff will instruct teachers how to plan, record, and upload their lectures or videos to YouTube. Lee will talk about a variety of Social Media Pla orms to connect to students (including Desmos.com, kahoot.com, and remind.com). If you are in high school or elementary, you may want to know how to put a video on YouTube so students can watch a lesson, or parents can view the 'video newsle er', or your students can watch a PE instruc onal video on the skill that will be prac ced in class the next day. There are millions of videos on the internet, but wouldn't it be great to have one that has EXACTLY what you want for your students??? We will discuss all the necessary requirements to make this a reality. Jeff's YouTube channel is Mr. MathWell and he has uploaded over 100 videos of lectures since mid April of this year. This session will look at the history of these movements, their effects on individuals, schools, and churches as well as some solu ons to dealing with their emergence within your school. Part 2 of 2 The second session of this two part workshop will focus on the shi in western society from being a "Culture of Character" to a "Culture of Personality" and how this plays out in schools, churches, and workplaces. We will look at ways of honouring and nurturing our quiet students so that they begin to view and use their nature as a strength given to them by God. Introversion/ Extroversion 302 Google in the Classroom This workshop looks at using Google Classroom, Google Forms and Google Docs in your classroom. Google Classroom is a new tool in Google Apps for Educa on that helps teachers create and organize assignments quickly, provide feedback efficiently, and easily communicate with their classes. Google Forms can be easily used for both forma ve and summa ve assessment. Google Docs allows for student collabora on and easy sharing of documents. This will be a two part session. The first part will discuss the use the Google Apps: Google Forms and Google Docs, and the second part will discuss the use of Google Classroom. Please bring a laptop, tablet or smart phone.
