+ Dear Lord, We pray for the president of our nation, that he may be more prudent in making pronouncements so he does not cause unwarranted nervousness in our financial and economic systems. A recent statement caused an undue sharp depreciation of our currency that may cause an equally sharp inflation causing prices to rise. Amen

IT S THE 4-WAY TEST (Tune: It s The Real Thing) We d like to help Pilipinos live In perfect harmony We d like to help Pilipinos grow As honest as can be. The 4-Way Test is what we offer To guide their way through life It teaches them to tell the truth And not to tell a lie. Refrain: It s the 4-Way Test It s Rotary s way We re all proud to say It s the 4-Way Test We d like to help Philippines grow In the most beneficial ways And bring Pilipinos all together In harmony and peace. The 4-Way Test is what we offer To bind them all as one. They ll cherish truth as their ideal Put lying out of mind (Repeat Refrain) (Adaptation from It s The Real Thing for Rotary by PP Peter)

of the things we think, say or do: 1. Is it the TRUTH? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned? The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster: First : The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for Service; Second : Third : Fourth : High Ethical standards in business and professions; the Recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian s occupation as an opportunity to serve society; The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian s personal, business and community life; The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

Pres. Ogie Lim Fellow Pasig Rotarians: Last meeting, I officially designated Secretary Ray Armas to be the Acting President for the rest of this month -- and even up to the first week of October. He will focus on our water hyacinth livelihood project and the Bingo Social fund-raising activity. We need to submit a written article about our water hyacinth livelihood project before September 26, 2016 in order to have our wonderful endeavour be showcased as one of the projects funded by TRF in the upcoming issue of the Philippine Rotary Magazine. In this regard, the Rotary Community Corps (RCC) of Barangay Pinagbuhatan should be able to produce finished products late this week; and should be able to market these by next week. Everything should be properly documented to feature how our project positively affects the lives of our stakeholders. Sec. Ray, together with Directors Raj and Albert, will be working in the Bingo Social fund-raising activity. That project was originally slated in August, but now moved to October Your muchwelcomed suggestions on how to go about the Bingo Social fundraising activity was the reason for the change of schedule. Nonetheless, we need to fast track all our activities for fund-raising. Accordingly, last Thursday, I gave the Second Triumvirate the blanket authority to decide on all matters pertaining to the Bingo Social. I hope that such pressing concern is the reason why the trio was holding the Thursday Club meeting; and not necessarily discussing their attempt to secure a PhD degree. Be that as it may, I will closely monitor the development of these milestone activities. By good grace, I pray that these two events will come to a fruitful conclusion. As a positive spill over, we will then definitely have in our midst three presidential timbers waiting for their turn.

Continuation 1. In the meantime, both PP Celso and PN John will be very busy in finalizing our legal documents for submission to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). In addition, they are working with the multi-party group to obtain a final signing of the Memorandum of Agreement for the Reintegration of the Rehabilitated Drug Users in our society. Hopefully, we can accomplish these feats by the end of this month. PND RJ Ermita will have his hands full as Club Administration chairperson. He will have to make sure that the Pangkat 4, headed by Director Arnel Estaniel, will deliver its commitments. It is great that PE Jess already lined up the weekly program for the month of September as early as mid-august. This is what Pangkat leaders should be doing -- panicking at the onset so that they could relax later. The first leg of the district golf tournament will be tomorrow and from the looks of it a resounding success is forthcoming. I am confident that we can raise sufficient funds to finance our various club projects. Kudos again to the First Triumvirate of Rtn Bart, PP Conrad, and PP Rel. Pardon my observation, but I think Rtn Bart is the most underrated Rotarian in our midst: he should become president of our club sooner than later. PN John will be out of the country again, but he promised to present his programs for the New Generation projects as soon as he returns. As an alternative, he may choose to write an article in Tinig to discuss his plans. Any which way is acceptable, so long as the college scholarship drive and the formation of the RC Pasig Rotaract Club are prioritized this year. As you can see, we all have our hands full this month of September. A good number of our officers and members are already doing their

Continuation 2. part of the deal. Based on my personal count, I am happy to report that about 42 of the 68 members of RC Pasig had, one way or another, contributed their Time, Talent, and Treasure towards the attainment of our club's vision in the first two months of this Rotary Year. These 42 Rotarians do not even include those who just attend club meetings. The others must contribute their 3 T s so as to qualify them as active Rotarians. Although 42 out of 68 is already quite a figure, I find that the 61% statistic is a far cry from any passing grade. I wish that before the end of the second quarter, RC Pasig could reach the threshold of 75%. Hopefully, before my term ends, that number would shoot up. To be frank, my modest target is to bring the active RC Rotarians close to 56; that will mean that RC Pasig has active Rotarians at an acceptable level of 82%. My vigorous campaign is fuelled by the farming out of tasks to as many members that I could reach. My main objective is not limited to the aspirations of a normal club. I yearn to have more leaders developed in order to bring what we started to greater heights. Yet, as of now, I will have to contend myself in watching the development from the treetop perspective. I am confident that I have delegated the tasks at hand to the most competent and reliable officers. Still, I would like to maintain a safe distance to the center of it all. My friends, be rest assured that I will not hesitate to go down from that tree to be of further assistance. But, at the rate that we are going, I am confident that such will not happen. Let us all passionately continue to live what we all set to do: Rotarians Serving Humanity. ROGELIO OGIE SP LIM All Star President Rotary Year

PP Benny P. De Guzman Dr. Jess, not anymore Doc Aga, mas madalas na siyang ma-late is all over in club activities. He also invited a rare doctor of so many disciplines with major specialties in three fields, Dr. Balagat. He is very much qualified to join our club. Can you add another feat to your multifaceted activities, Jess? Our golfing group showed BCP Ogie what they mean if they will give much to your scholarship. Even with the absence of golf chair Bart, the other plugs were sparkling that you could have assigned the task to anybody as long as PPs Conrad and Rel are there segurado na. At the same time, if Pasig is hosting, seguradong maraming participants. The viral flu that Director Nick brought with him from Davao caught up with me as well that I was kinder not to stay long in our meeting last Thursday. The best way to get healed is if you transfer your illness to your seatmate but I cannot bear to do that. Instead, the virus stayed for nine days. Nag enjoy at my misery. The past presidents of our club decided to have a fellowship of sorts next week. If there is a program already, we will see to it that we will have a meaningful dinner meeting as well. The New Generation Rotarian of our club to be presented by President Nominee John Peter would spell out the major thrust of the club this RY. Starting early, BCP Ogie received an award from the District Police Director for his tie-up project with Tony Kosca s foundation and the police for training of drug users for faster rehab. Our new members from the construction group is the group that would provide employment. How is this for a community project for a start?

PP Benny P. De Guzman Continuation 1. We welcome back for his annual visit to his adoptive country, Public Image boss Emil. He looked refreshed enough to sound off his presence by reacting to any assignments. Good news is always good news. PP Ducky is back to regular activities except golf and Gulp. Snoogie makes sure of the second one. They are back in Metro Manila and Ducky said he would try to catch up even for a while in last week s meeting. This is the middle of the month but actually the third Thursday already. It means, in two weeks time the first quarter of the RY is over. There is not much noise or announcements from the Membership Invitation group of Chair Bebert. He must not be too busy watching his waist line. It looks good na. Did anybody hear of the odd-even scheme being used in some parts of our City. No need for Ordinance, it was started by retired Police Officer Dulay who was been hired by the City to man traffic problems. The only reasonable proposal I heard on the matter is that of Rtn. Jun Palafox transfer major government offices to Clark and foreign embassies to Subic. Watch business developments in Central Luzon, lessening of Edsa traffic. In the late 60 s when business district was going to Makati, they said impossible to get the business out of Escolta. I recall that Legaspi Village was a failed residential venture of the Ayalas but they allowed not more than 7 story building in corner lots. Eventually there was a lot of building and rentals were lower than P30/sqm. Even if you band 10 Tirades, nobody can solve the traffic problems. Try something unique but kaya ng Duterte Administration? Pa Vigilantes erring drivers sa Edsa mismo. Kung successful sa drugs, baka sa traffic din? PP Celso brought in the beautiful golf caps donated by our sister club, RC of Hongkong Sunrise for the first 80 golfers. They are so nice.

PP Jun C. Zafra SAM OWORI IS SELECTED TO BE ROTARY PRESIDENT Samuel Frobisher Owori, a Ugandan businessman and a member of the Rotary Club of Kampala, will become presidentnominee on 1 October. The Nominating Committee for President of Rotary International has unanimously nominated Samuel Frobisher Owori, of the Rotary Club of Kampala, Uganda, to be the president of Rotary International in He will be declared the president-nominee on 1 October if no challenging candidates have been suggested. Owori says he sees in Rotary "an incredible passion to make a difference." As president, he plans to "harness that enthusiasm and pride so that every project becomes the engine of peace and prosperity." Owori's chief concerns as a Rotary leader are membership and extension. Since he served as district governor, the number of clubs in Uganda has swelled from nine to 89. He urges past, present, and future leaders to work together to engage more women, youth program participants, alumni, and community members to increase Rotary's membership in the coming years. "There are many places which need Rotary and numerous potential members who have never been invited," he says. "The problem is Rotarians who got in and closed the doors."

By: PP Peter M. Javier THE 11 HEALTH BENEFITS OF WHISKY Whisky is one of the most popular alcoholic beverages in the world, thanks to its distinct flavors and the fact that it s the least likely to give you a hangover. Add that to the fact that whisky also holds several medicinal properties, and you ve got yourself an obvious success story. Please remember that whisky is alcoholic, so drink it responsibly and as always in moderation. The first confirmed accounts of whisky distillation are from the early 15 th century, when the Irish and Scottish distilled it, calling it Aqua Vitae (Water of Life / Lively Water), for medicinal properties. During the American Revolution, it was used as currency and George Washington even owned a distillery in Mount Vernon. During the Prohibition era ( ), whisky was the only alcohol permitted for consumption, provided you had a doctor s prescription. THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF WHISKY: 1. Memory Boost: Whisky contains antioxidants that help improve the health of the brain. Additionally, alcohol boosts blood circulation, both of which contribute to good memory. Also, the Ethanol in whisky helps your neurons function properly, which further aids recall. 2. Stress Relief: In moderation, whisky can reduce stress and calm the nerves. The combination of slowing down brain activity and increasing circulation (which helps provide the

Fight Weight Gain: Compared to its counterparts, whisky is a low-calorie alcohol, free of fat and cholesterol. If you re on a diet but still want a drink it s your best choice. 4. Reduce the Risk of a Stroke: Whisky prevents cholesterol from accumulating in the cardiovascular system and can help remove excess cholesterol from the body. It also relaxes the walls of the arteries, reducing the risk of obstruction. All of these factors help reduce the risk of stroke considerably. 5. Reduce the Risk of Cancer: Whisky contains an antioxidant called ellagic acid, an acid that stops DNA from coming in contact with cancer-causing compounds, such as nitrosamines and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. It is also beneficial in protecting the body from damage caused during chemotheraphy. 6. Helps with Digestion: for centuries, whisky was considered a digestive aid, to be consumed after a heavy meal. Whisky s composition and high alcohol percentage also make it an effective appetite suppressant. 7. Live Longer: The antioxidants in whisky help fight free radicals the number one cause of aging, as well as prevent various disease. This double-whammy helps your body live a longer, healthier life. 8. Diabetic-Friendly: Containing zero carbs, whisky won t affect blood sugar levels, making it the number one choice for

By: PP Peter M. Javier Continuation 2. diabetics. However, it should be in moderation and never on an empty stomach. Consult your doctor before drinking. 9. Improve Your Heart s Health: Drinking whisky actually helps your heart stay healthy, similarly to red wine. It reduces the risk of blood clots, thus it can prevent strokes and heart attacks. The antioxidants in the whisky also inhibits the oxidation of low density lipoprotein a main factor in heart disease. 10. Improve the Health of Your Brain: A 2003 study found that, thanks to the antioxidant qualities of the ellagic acid, moderate consumption of whisky reduces the risk of Alzheimer s and dementia, and also improves cognitive function. Basically, one drink a day will keep the brain doctor away. 11. Prevent & treat Cold and Flu: Whisky is known for its positive effects in battling allergies and colds. It s an effective cough syrup for people suffering from an itchy throat, and the alcohol helps kill bacteria in the throat. The best results are achieved by adding a little of whisky to a cup of hot water and lemon. Source: BabaMail
