10 War brings real problems for people, especially religious believers. Some that war is ALWAYS WRONG, while others maintain that wars, although awful, may sometimes have to be fought.

11 To help religious believer with the dilemma had a suggestion... Here are a set of conditions, which if fulfilled, would allow a religious believer to fight in a conflict. Lets call the...the JUST WAR theory!

15 SUFFICIENT FORCE! The force used in the war must be PROPORTIONAL to the cause.

16 The war must be fought by the PROPER AUTHORITY of a government or the United Nations.

17 There must be CONTROLLED VIOLENCE. Methods used should AVOID KILLING CIVILIANS

23 Are there any problems with the JUST WAR theory? Under each of the criteria explain in YOUR OWN WORDS what this means and WHY it would be seen as a JUST reason. This criteria can be split into TWO Right to go to war. 2. Conduct while at war. Next to each one write which category it would fall into.

28 . It must be fought to restore peace. A war can be fought if it is believed that it would prevent a greater evil. Most people argue that Britain and her allies, by taking on the Nazi regime of Adolf Hitler, prevented greater evil from happening

29 You cannot go to war and waste the lives of brave soldiers for something which you have very little chance of winning, lives should not be wasted.

30 The war must be started for a good reason e.g. self-defense, and not because of greed.

33 The main problem with the JUST WAR theory is that both sides in a war may claim that their cause is just. For example in WW2 Hitler claimed the Nazis were right and just in what they fought for, just as the allied forces did. NO!!! We are fighting for a JUST CAUSE! We are fighting for a JUST CAUSE!
