2 From the Principal's Desk THE BEST FLOWER WON'T GROW IN THE WORST DIRT BUT THE POOREST FLOWERS WILL THRIVE IN THE RICHEST LAND The true significance of education lies in instilling in the students, a profound sense of purpose and joy. In this highly competitive world of today. Communication and interaction is gradually diminishing. Education has become a high mechanical process. Children explore and learn, assimilate facts and figures, exhibit the highest degree of perfection, but in the process lose the most precious gem of life enjoyment and happiness. The Pravin Kumar Principal (CP Gurukul) humane touch is missing. It is, thus, imperative that students be tended with love and care, during the tender years, enabling them to come to full bloom, in due time. From the safe and secure world of a nursery, a child's first step into the arena of school education is full of great apprehensions which need to be gradually removed through regular interaction and sensitive handling. The transformation, thus, of a hesitant child into a confident youngster, ready to face the challenges of life, is extremely gratifying can be equally fascinating. The youth of today dreams big, the canvas of opportunities being vast and varied. Focussed right, from the word go, they are in pursuit of excellence in academics, sports and overall growth of mind and body. There are no limits to human endeavour and one can certainly accomplish anything, that one sets ones heart, upon. The need of the hour is to give an inputs and motivation to surge ahead. It is here that the role of school and teacher assumes significant proportion. It is right education that prepares youth to indentify goals and make them he resolute and determined to achieve them. It is the ART OF GIVING that helps shape the destiny of the new generation and in turn, of the nation, at large. We give of ourselves, when we give gift of the heart: love, kindness, sympathy, tolerance and forgiveness. We give of ourselves, when we give gift of the heart: love, ideas, dreams, purposes, projects, poetry We give of ourselves, when we give gift of the heart: prayer, vision, beauty, peace, faith We give of ourselves, when we give gift of the heart: when we are minute builders of more abundant living for others. With a tradition of leadership and innovation nearly half a decade long, the JBS Children Paradise School is prepared to seize this opportunity. Collectively, we have improved the lives of millions of young people. There may be a lot wrong in education, but has been a key part of what is right about education. Career Point Gurukul is poised to make a genuine difference in the world. The tradition of innovation that has marked the school is as vibrant as ever. That we are located within the finest locations and a education hub of the country, gives us unrivaled opportunities. Our students and faculty are unmatched. We are diverse in our outlook and our approach, beholden not to any ideology but to a fierce desire to discover and help implement what works. No other institution has this opportunity, but with opportunity comes responsibility. We must accept this responsibility and seize this moment. With everyone's help, we can begin the next chapter in the life of an educational system that will continue to be, like no other. Together, we will learn to change the world. Thank you for your support. From The Editor's Desk. Moderate Student + Moderate Anxiety = High Performance OK, this one takes me by surprise. A large study showed that a moderate amount of anxiety in a student who tries mathematics helps that student to reach his or her potential. Is there a way we can instill MODERATE anxiety? Perhaps by posing challenging questions to our motivated students and let them struggle. I've seen it happen. As long as the support system is there to help, the students have confidence while struggling with the problems. Instilling the mindset of, what is learned during the process, instead of the final product being perfect, builds their confidence. We're constantly told to relax and take it easy, but stress may actually help us to focus and succeed in life. Suppose you have an important presentation tomorrow but your heart is racing and your mind is serving up a steady stream of "what if's": What if I'm not fully prepared? What if it goes badly? You're running out time. The last thing you need is all this anxiety. Actually, a little anxiety may be just what you need to focus on your efforts and perform at your peak, said by some Psychologists. Somewhere between checked out and freaked out lies an anxiety's sweet spot, some researchers say, a person is motivated to succeed yet not so anxious hence performance takes a dive. This moderate amount of anxiety keeps people on their toes, enables them to juggle between multiple tasks and puts them on high an alert for potential problems. Dear Readers, 'To me, the greatest pleasure of writing is not what it's about, but the inner music the words make.' -Truman Capote. Mili Arora (Academic Co-ordinator) In agreement with the above quote, I find writing as the most valuable literary expression. The inculcation of passion for creative thinking and writing amongst the students is one of the major objectives set by Career Point Gurukul School. 'Expressions' has been a step towards it and it has served as a great platform to vent out students' passion for writing and encourage original thinking within them. Our student authors and faculties have put across some amazing pieces of writing displaying their creative thinking and writing skills. The works included in this edition are extremely simple but will surely provide an opportunity to peep into a child's and adults thought process and his or her axiomatic creative thinking. It is actually a lovely experience to see these enthusiastic writers voicing their feeling through stories, poems, jokes and initiating an adult role through various eye opening discussions. The publication of the school magazine included a lot of planning compounded with team work and we were lucky to have a team of motivated students who played a strong role in envisioning the layout of 'Expressions'. I am thankful to all the blooming writers who have responded to my call and penned their ideas for the newsletter. I also acknowledge constant hard work of the student editors Ashish Bharadwaj, Shakambari Saxena, Varun Prakash, Naveen Paneri and Sakshi Singh who proved to be as catalysts in mobilising the students to write their views and efficiently edited the write ups. I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to our institution head Mr. Pravin Kumar for his constant support and guidance through the entire process of planning and publication of 'Expressions'. Finally, from the entire team of 'Expressions' I wish all the readers a happy reading! "Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will spend its whole life believing that it is stupid" Albert Einstein Mili Arora (Chief Editor) Husain Umrethi (Faculty - English) Virendra Panwar (Faculty - English) Sitaram Sharma (Faculty - Hindi) Seema Sharma (Faculty - Hindi) Varun Prakash Class X Ashish Bharadwaj Class - X Naveen Paneri Class - IX Sakshi Singh Class - IX Shakambari Saxena Class X 1 2

4 PUNCTUALITY AND SUCCESS Amar Singh Faculty-Biology Punctuality trains us to plan the time we need to complete a task. We can then perform our workcorrectly and efficiently. A person who respects time is careful with every minute of it. A punctual person completes the given work within the specified time and is therefore a dependable person. We should be punctual not only in our work but also in our commitment to time given to someone. It is rude to keep another person waiting. It is not only waste of time but also spoils our impression on the person who has made to wait for us. HIGHS AND LOWS They come and go Make us feel high and low This is how the time grows When they come, We welcome joyous When they go Is a sorrow to us? But never have you felt bad Rather you should be glad That your life is normal Neither you cry but we are adorable. You are alone when you cry There in no one to set us Everyone looks when we fly They try to deceive us They come and go Make us feel high and low This is how the time grows. Idam Shree Mishra class - IX - A "Lack of punctuality is not only a sign of disrespect to others but also makes us miss great Vikas Paijwar class - X -A OH! 5 HOW DO LIQUID METAL SNOWFLAKES GROW? Electrochemical oxidation shapes liquid gallium-indium metal into fractal shapes A PEN No pen, No notes No notes, No study No study, Fail Fail, No degree No degree, No job No job, No money No money, No food No food, Weakness Weakness, Skin pale Skin pale, Look ugly Look ugly, No love No love, No marriage No marriage, No children No children, Depression Depression, Sickness Sickness, Death Namita Kumari class - IX - A Vipul Sharma Chemistry Faculty In a recent discovery it has been found that drops of liquid metal can be grown into snowflake shapes. When a team of scientists from the North Carolina State University, US, tried to use a droplet of liquid galliumindium as an electrode in a electrochemical cell, they observed something odd: within a few seconds, the metal starts to spread out into a snowflake-like shape. An unusual behaviour for a liquid that has the largest surface tension of any fluid and is therefore rarely inclined to change its shape. Conclusion A pen can change a life Applying a moderate voltage, however, kicks off a reaction between the gallium alloy and the surrounding electrolyte, a solution of sodium hydroxide in water. The metal's surface becomes oxidized, which lowers its surface tension in the same way soap lowers the surface tension of water. As gravity spreads the metal out into a disc, disturbances on its surface break it up into individual 'petals'. As they grow, the petals break up into more branches, creating a fractal pattern. The largest liquid metal snowflakes are around 20 times the size of the original droplet and form in less than half a minute. However, the researchers found that the effect only works in a narrow voltage window around 2V. At lower voltages, the droplet's surface doesn't oxidize enough to disturb its shape. If the voltages are too high, the surface oxide layer grows too thick and doesn't allow the droplet to spread and break up. Liquid metals have been used as wheels for miniaturized vehicles and as tiny actuators. Being able to precisely control their shape could help design new types of soft electronics. MANNERS We say thank you, We say please, We never tease, We don't argue, we don't beat around-the bush. You should do everything with - concern, And always wait for your turn. She's the one who remains thirsty for us & gives us water. She remains with us in every matter longer or shorter. The ideology which occurred in ancient India has been cherished by the worldly person that's why, they turned towards India. Behind this, the reason is that there were great efforts which were been done by our forefathers for the goodwill of our country. This is-'simple living and high thinking', 'AtithiDevoBhav' (It means to welcome our guests to put all our efforts to serve them) and 'VasudhaivaKutumbkam' are the ground of it. H.R. Upadhyay Faculty - SST Now it is our duty to maintain it with our good attitude, dedication and devoted service towards our culture, to be humble not only to our guests but also our primary and secondary family members to avoid all types of differences in terms of caste, creed, sex or standard of living. We should make such an effort by which our country becomes an ideal place for living in this world. It needs a lot of sacrifice to check our lustrous desire and forward ourselves towards services. To think that - 'Service to men is to service to God'. We should never throw our liabilities over others but take responsibilities of other's liabilities. Then the miracle of 'SarveBhavantuSukhinah', will take place in our country. ShubhamBhuyata. Mystery of Chemistry What is this Chemistry! Chemistry! Success Consciousness and Motivation How many times have you started enthusiastically a weight loss program, began having a training course or started learning a foreign language, only to stop after a short while? How many times have you intended to do something different, study a certain topic or start a certain project, but couldn't? We need to understand that in order to accomplish anything you need a driving force, a hard push. A wish is not strong enough to make you take an action. A wish is a weak desire and only a strong desire can drive you forward to act and accomplish aims and goals. This driving force is "motivation". In order to get motivated, you need to know exactly what is that you want. Your goal should be clear, sharp and realistic. Thinking often about the goal and accepting the idea that it can become true, would increase your motivation and your desire to achieve it. Husain Umrethi Faculty - English It is easier to display motivation in connection with short term goals. When it comes to long-term goals, it is always possible to sustain the motivation for a longer time. This is why it is wiser to start with smaller goals and gaining experience with being motivated, you proceed to bigger goals. Motivation has much to do with emotions and the imagination, which means that if you want to increase it, you have to work on your feelings and imagination. Tips to increase you motivation " Think and analyze your desire to find out whether you really want to achieve it, and whether it is worth the effort and time. " Make your goals very clear, writing it down would help. " Think often about your goals or desire. " Visualize your goals as already accomplished and shut your mind to doubts and disbeliefs " Read books and articles about the subject of your goal. " Read about the people who have achieved success. This would inspire you to emulate them. " Think often about the benefits you will gain by achieving your goal, this will increase your desire and motivation. " Visualize how your life would be after getting what you wanted. Imagine how you would feel after achieving your goal. " Repeat positive affirmations such as, "I have desire and the inner strength to achieve my goal". Repeat this affirmation often with attention and belief. "Start taking small steps towards your goal.right NOW! don't want to miss the right opportunity and time. "Motivation is the powerful engine that moves you towards success and accomplishment in every area of life ". "Motivation is the electrical power that activates the engine of success". "Visualizing your desire as already accomplished, and enjoying the feeling of accomplishment awakens in you the energies that drive you to do whatever it takes to make your desire come true!" 9 10

And you want to smile but you have to sigh. When care is pressing you down a bitrest if you must, but don't you quit - Life is a queer with its twist and turns as everyone of us sometimes learns. And many a failure turns about when the might have won had he stuck it out. Eshaan Boruah Class - VI Don't give up though the pace seems slow you may succeed with another blow. After the goal is nearer than It seems to be faint and faltering man; After the struggler has given up When he might have captured the victor's cup and he learned to late when the night came down How close he was to the golden crown. Self Control There are a few negative virtues found in human beings which make them tread on a wrong path. People, who have control on their senses and brain, never get diverted from the path of righteousness. Anger is also called short-time madness and it may ruin one's life in no time. Therefore we should not fall prey to anger sometimes; we become angry when someone criticizes us for our mistakes and does something wrong that could not be cured. Therefore whenever someone criticizes us we Sheim Jilen Class - X should have a self perception that we should rectify our mistakes. Similarly greed, hatred, etc. are out enemies that may ruin our happy life. If we can control our anger, hatred, greed and temptation, we would certainly achieve great success.
