1 Classroom WithOut Walls For each quarter you will receive a grade for your efforts at finding / exploring / interacting with wild German as it naturally occurs in and affects the world around you. You are trying to collect a total of 50 points per quarter and are allowed to earn up to 5 extra credit points. 2 Zum Fest!: Go to Oktoberfest at the Berea Fairgrounds (8/29-9/1) Present your experience to the class including a slide show of pics and vids from the fest. (3-5 minutes). Make sure that you are in at least one photo! 30 Zu Hause activity Documentation Points Was ich da habe! Look for items with German on the label or that are imported from Germany Go through your kitchen and bathroom cabinets. List the items you find, their connection to Germany, and where you found them. Share a picture of your favorite item in class. Make sure the picture is not too Die Klasse zeigen: Bring in one Germanic item for a show and tell. big and not too small. Bring in the item and do a 3 minute presentation on it s germanity. Explain what it is, why you have it, and it s significance in history, culture or your family. Lebensmittelgeschäft: Go to the grocery store and look for items that are German. List items you find, their connection to Germany, and where you found them in the store. Share a picture of the items in a slide show! Make sure the pictures are not too big and not too small. Mach Sich auf den Weg Kunst Museum: Go the Cleveland, Akron, or other art museum and find a work by a German artist. Im Restaurant: Visit a German restaurant or café and order something you wouldn t typically find in a US restaurant Sketch the work and list the artist and title. Write a list of seven German adjectives that you feel describe the art. Make sure to take a picture of yourself in the museum! Write a description of the experience and give a review of the restaurant. Have the waiter/waitress sign the receipt and turn it in. Bring a menu for extra credit! See the last page for a list of German Restaurants in our area, or find your own!

3 Media Deutscher Film: Watch a German film that we have not, or do not watch in class (check with me first!!!!) Deutsche Musik: Download or borrow a German CD from the library SuperStar: Write, perform, and record your own German song German TV Watch the film and complete a list of Germanic things that you noticed in the film. Double points for watching it in German with English subtitles (your parent must sign that you did so) Write a review. Did you like the music? Did you understand any of it? What was your favorite song? Turn it in as an MP3 or live performance and tell the class your inspiration/ reasoning behind the song. Use the Internet to watch a German TV program. Write a review of the program and include a complete list of Germanic things that you noticed. Kunst 25 Mach das selbst! Select a work by a German artist and recreate it in your own style. Bring it in, along with a picture of the original, and present it and why you chose it to the class. Lesen macht klug Spass Lies ein Buch auf Deutsch! Lies ein Buch auf Englisch Current Events: Find a newspaper or online article about a CURRENT German, Austrian or Swiss event. German Magazine: Read a book from the classroom and list new vocabulary words and their English translations that you learned! Read a book from the classroom and come discuss it with me during conferences. Present a Germanic current event to the class (3-5 minutes). Ask the class some questions and be ready to answer their questions. Turn in the article to me at the time of presentation. Subscribe to the GERMAN WORLD magazine at Bring me in your first issue! You can then use this the rest of the year for more K.O.W. points by reporting on current events or to report to the class on any one of the articles! 15 15

4 Essen wie die Deutschen! Zu Hause Kochen: Pick out a German recipe (bring it to me for approval) and then cook it for your family. Was Gutes Essen: Sample a German food from a grocery store Take a picture of your meal and it to your teacher. Bring a note from an adult that tried the dish giving their opinion of it. Take a picture of your food and it to your teacher. Write a review, did you like it, is it worth the price etc. In den anderen Klassen In der Schule: Is the chorus singing something German? Is the art class doing expressionist art? Are you studying a German scientist or German history? Write a description at least one page in length about what you are doing in your other class and how it connects to German; then turn it into me. Deutsch Klub Participate in a German Club event!
