+ Dear Lord, O Holy God, we bow before You today because we believe in the reality of Your presence. We believe You are our God, the source of all our happiness, our bounty and resources. Enkindle our hearts with Your love so that we may not forget to share our bounty, out time, and resources with our fellowmen, especially those who are in need of our help. O God, bless the present leadership of our club so that it will achieve its goals towards the next millennium Amen.
of the things we think, say or do: 1. Is it the TRUTH? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned? The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster: First : The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for Service; Second : Third : Fourth : High Ethical standards in business and professions; the Recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian s occupation as an opportunity to serve society; The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian s personal, business and community life; The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD I see threes of green, red roses too I see them bloom, for me and you And I think to myself What a wonderful world O see skies of blue, and clouds of white The bright blessed day, dark sacred night And I think to myself What a wonderful world The colors of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky Are also on the faces, of people going by I see friends shaking hands, sayin, how do you? They re really sayin, I love you I hear babies cryin, I watch them grow They ll learn much more, then I ll ever know And I think to myself What a wonderful world Yes, I think to myself What a wonderful world Oh yeah
Pres. Ogie Lim Fellow Pasig Rotarians: Happy Easter to RC Pasig! I hope all of you enjoyed the longest holiday break this year. Before I go on, let me greet PDG/RIDN Raffy Garcia Advance Happy Birthday. Let us all enjoy our club assembly today and as our good friend Johnny always says Sanay malasing mo kami!! As for PE Jess and I, we spent the holidays exchanging notes on how to best package the new water supply system in Barangay Bagong Silang, Real, Quezon. Barangay Bagong Silang is the biggest barangay in Real Quezon in terms of land area but is also the smallest in terms of population. This was due to the absence of a good road going to the barangay. Only carabaos, horses, and 4 wheel drive vehicles can practically scale the existing road. Added to the sad plight of the residents in the barangay is that their source of water supply was contaminated when a restaurant was built right on top of their source of water. Water borne diseases became prevalent in the barangay forcing some residents to refrain from drinking water from that source. That is precisely the reason why PE Jess and I wanted to help the unfortunate residents to build a new water supply system that is good and sustainable for them. Maybe some of you will wonder how we know all of these things about Bagong Silang. Well PE Jess and I were actually neighbours in Bagong Silang and we have been neighbours for almost a year when we discovered that we are such. You see, we live in the same barangay but because of the bad road condition, we need to negotiate a more than 2 hour drive to go to each others house. As a
Continuation 1. result, we have been neighbours for almost three years now but we have never been in each others residence. The case of Bagong Silang is the case of roughly 50% of the rural barangays in our country. Farm to market roads conditions ranges from bad to none at all and so is the water supply system. It is good that a good percentage of the houses in our barangay have electricity already. I think that this is where the help of the Rotarians are needed the most. As a result of PE Jess' consultation with our fellow Rotarians, we decided to submit a district grant request. It should have been easy if not for the deadline set this Easter Sunday. And so our holiday break was not a reprieve after all. PE Jess made another herculean job of packaging the whole project. He passed it to me almost complete (sans the project cost estimate) at around 10:00 a.m. on Easter Sunday, with the instruction that I should the whole complete package to PDG Fabie Enriquez, the TRF Grant Chair, before lunch that day. Well, the most that an experienced Civil Engineer could do in less than two hours is to make an intelligent guess of the project cost. I just hope it will fly. The best part of the whole thing is that we beat the deadline. On another note: last April 10, 2017, as I wrote in my last column, we launched the first day of class of the Reintegration Project. General Sapitula, his Deputy Col De Ocampo, the Chief of Police of Pasig Col Yebra and more than a dozen police officers from EPD, members of the ADCOP, OIC Aida Concepcion, the OIC of PCIST Ms. Correne, Ms Tita Bognot who was the lone
Continuation 2. representative of PCAM, all graced the event. Our very own Director Raj Cordova also arrived. PP Jun Zafra and I were also there but since we are both wearing two hats, PCAM and RC Pasig have three representatives each. All five signatories to the MOA who all pledged to help these drug surrenderers to have a better life were adequately represented. Sad to say, the people who should be the recipient of the program was not adequately represented. Of the 28 or so who made the grade, only 12 were there in the first day of class. I thought that assembling five parties to help is a great task. I never thought that assembling drug surrenderers is even more difficult. This is the real challenge and I just hope that our partners in ADCOP and EPD can live up to that endeavour. I was not able to finish the value formation lecture of the good man from DMCI who was invited by another good man, PP Jun Zafra. I needed to run to catch up the 11:30 a.m. signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between Luxid Foundation of Ateneo, Rafael Garcia Foundation, and RC Pasig in the City Club at Alpha Land in Makati City. As I mentioned in my last column hereunder are the duties and responsibilities of each party to the agreement: The Rafael Garcia lll Foundation commits to build a three-storey building on the subject property for the use of the parties herein to pursue the aforementioned objective. In the pursuit of the said objective, RC Pasig and Luxid Foundation shall be given usufruct of the said building and the entire property. Likewise, the foundation may opt to
Continuation 3. fund the construction and maintenance of the proposed polyclinic inside the building that will cater to the medical needs of the target communities. The Rotary Club of Pasig Inc., among other things, shall offer the people of the target communities values formation, livelihood training, and business projects that will provide decent incremental income. The Luxid Foundation Inc., is to operate micro-finance programs or credit cooperatives in order to provide working capital to the residents. It shall also fund the operation and management of the proposed polyclinic in a joint and cooperative undertaking with the Rotary Club of Pasig Inc. The best news for this month is when I received the Certificate of Organization signed by RI President John Germ certifying that the Interact Club of Rizal High School that was established on 15 July 1986 was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Pasig. Rotary International corrected their record that RC Pasig West sponsored the Interact Club of Rizal High School. This was made possible when we submitted to RI a petition letter requesting to correct that long standing error in their record. Finally, after more than 30 years, our club was finally recognised as the true sponsor of that Interact Club. Mabuhay ang RC Pasig!! ROGELIO SP LIM All Star President Rotary Year
