13 TRIALS AND VICTORY! Ever since humans have inhabited this earth, we know that there have been trials and challenges of every nature and degree, some of which we all must face during our life time. There is a desire and an attempt in this section of poems to use words which hopefully will help us to feel, if even in a small way, something of the darkness for those who are suffering in hopelessness and despair, and of the light which pierces that darkness when The Helper Himself finds them in their need and quiets life s storm for them. Should you be going through similar trials, may you be encouraged and know the peace which comes from the wonderful Comforter Himself... Then came Jesus... and said peace unto them. John 20:26 3

14 She touched the hem of His garment. Matt 9:20 No one to help and nowhere to turn, She was defiled and proclaimed unclean, Ignored by others and for days unseen. What depth of anguish filled her heart For every hope seemed to depart. But then, a new hope flickered in her mind, He s healing sickness of every kind! Perhaps she could gently touch His robe, And maybe a touch could make her whole. So through the crowd she made her way, Being so careful on that day, That no one would see her for she was unclean. Then, all of a sudden, there He was! Reaching out, she touched His robe, Immediately, her body was made to feel whole. Then His eyes of compassion fell upon her, And on her knees she poured out her soul. In the moments which followed she Heard Him say, Daughter, you are made whole. What mercy, what grace, no longer unclean, No longer the need to remain unseen! 4

15 This poem based on Matthew 9:20 is about the true story of a little lady who had an ailment which in her time and in her culture caused her to be considered unclean. We know this lady only as A certain woman and we know as well that she had suffered for twelve years and had spent all her money on doctors, her problem growing worse rather than getting better. We can only imagine this woman s wonderful relief and her gratitude to the kind Healer for delivering her from the dreaded disease. We can only imagine the joy which she must have experienced, not only in being proclaimed to be Whole, but now, at last, to be accepted as clean by members of her own culture. (Mark 5:25-34). 5
