1 Vajrasattva Bronze Dragon In the far east they say each human has a pure Self. This is known as Vajrasattva. With this part of your being you know the Universe, and love, and act and exist in the great healing flow of things. I won t call it your Higher Self because it is to your Higher Self as that is to you. It could be called your True Self or Deep Self. What is it like? Think of a perfect sunset. Think of a beautiful snowy mountain. It just is Speculations now: One day part of it, a very curious and noble part, wanted to explore the virtues and mysteries of the Deep Self and separated from that being. Not really. Not truly separate. More like a lotus rising from a peaceful pool. And this part was your High Self. And wow! Did it sense new things! Sacrifice and self-restraint and courage and endurance of tragedy and parting and reunions and more! But it needed a stage to experience this.

2 So it got together with other High Selves rising out of their own Deep Selves and created a world of energy and matter. This world. And it didn t work. The High Selves came down to Earth and wandered around like bright, wise gods, knowing that they were part of a huge peaceful mystery, and could not take the vulnerability seriously. It was almost right. So they asked Deep Self what to do. And the answer was a little part grew out of each High Self, like petals on those lotuses. A little self that could take the drama as real. That felt it could even die. Or be separate. Or not know the truth behind things. The Deep Self made us. And so we began to do right and wrong and learn from it, and if we came back to this stage again and again as our High Selves delighted in our new experiences, and our spiritual responses to challenges well we forgot. Each life seemed new, our one and only chance. What drama! Some High Selves came down to Earth to cool things down. To keep the possibilities of peace, love and wisdom open. And our little selves reached down and sensed great potentials for peace and yes war inside us for we had agreed to evolve from rather fierce and desperate creatures and sometimes we projected these qualities as aliens, demons and archetypes. Like a child with a lucky pebble. We told ourselves we were not wise enough, strong enough, nor loving enough to live a good life. So we asked these external things to help us. Even sponsor our reiki systems. It worked, but it did teach us not to own our true power. Meanwhile our High Self was enjoying it all and began to think maybe I should improve this Little Self into a High Self, if that is possible. Yes, maybe join a spiritual church or meditation class or practice austerities? But the High Self forgot it had borrowed us from its own material, and that was of Deep Self, and so we were deeply perfect all along. Perfect as a sunset. And if we are brave, we can know this.

3 So that is what this ritual is for. To remind us that we don t really need it! No magic words, no mysterious buddhas, no rainbows of energy, no talismans, nothing. We are beautiful as we are, in the fabric of our being. Now, this will be difficult for those of you who believe sincerely in saviour gods, or in self-improvement and the idea of karma. It will seem as if I am saying you don t need to worship. You don t need to do good in this world. I m not saying that. Follow your own heart in these things. I do think I have sensed some lessons: 1. We are Deep Self, and Deep Self is good. 2. We are equal. 3. We are worth helping when we feel vulnerable. 4. We are change. 5. We are One. There is a ritual that reminds you of this, and initiates a seeker, and it involves the Bronze Dragon. It came from India through Tibet to Japan.

4 You enter in a peaceful temple. There are paintings on the walls of gods and sages. There is a bowl of beautiful flowers. And incense and water. First, throw a flower onto the large painting on the floor. It is a circle of the rays of the rainbow. Where does it land? Who watches over you and helps you through this rite? For deities are painted there. A monk sprinkles you with water from the four directions of the earth, and once for the center. Make a small gassho bow to him in return. In ancient India this is how they prepared kings to rule Now imagine that a wise bronze dragon, a teaching Being, approaches you. It sits down facing you. It holds out its paw. You stretch out your own hand and your fingers mirror its claws. Then you pull back.

5 You hold your palm out and the dragon pushes its closed paw against it. The words that follow are not Sanskrit but seed sounds and what you should think about after you say them, is given below: Vajra dhatu vam I accept the peaceful mind of Pure Being Vam hum trah hrih ah I call the five buddhas of the directions for help vam a vam rah ham kham I call the elements for help Now the dragon holds its paw up and you push against it. First you receive and now you thrust. Yin and Yang happening here. a vi ra hum kham I play with the five elements a a am ah amh I walk the path of light a va ra ha kha For names are things Now fold your hands in your lap. The dragon does the same. a ra pa ca na My name is true Now imagine the dragon lays three items on the ground. A mirror, a sword, and a big jewel. Which one do you choose? What does it mean to you? The mirror is compassion, the sword is strength, and the jewel is wisdom. The three Reiki roots. Take all three!

6 Bow in gassho to your teacher dragon, who also in turn bows to you And so it is done! This attunement gives the empowerment of this rite, whether you visualize it or not. Just relax and ask for the energy and the blessings. You can teach and attune others to this rite now. As always take what works for you, and leave the rest. Good luck!
