2 crystal AwakeningS T he crystal journey can best be described as a process of awakening the teacher within. As we transition from the Age of Pisces to the Age of Aquarius, the age of believing to the age of inner knowing, the timing for this couldn t be more perfect. It s time now to trust your own intuition; the time for outside authority is over. While there are things you can learn from me about crystals, your crystal journey will be unique to you. Books are valuable resources, but be careful not to miss the rock that is calling to you because you are too busy

3 looking for the one you read about. Keep in mind, there is no wrong way to get a rock! We have an inherent sense that understands exactly what it s doing when it comes to crystals and gemstones. In any case, if you re just starting to explore the world of crystals, trust your instincts and enjoy the experience! If at first you don t feel their energies, do not become discouraged. Personally, I m not a natural. I learned to feel the crystals energy and to hear the messages of the Stone People by spending a lot of time sitting quietly, holding them and meditating with them. There are, however, people who are naturally very sensitive to crystals and one can see a visceral response when they pick up a particular stone, such as the person turning bright red. Even naturals don t necessarily understand what it all means because they have not been encouraged any more than the rest of us when it gifucrystalxchange.com 3

4 comes to feeling and understanding subtle energies. So many people have told me they don t know anything about gemstones and they just go by what attracts them - this is usually the gemstones color. As we process 90 percent of all our information through our eyes, that is no small matter. Colors can influence our mood and our emotions and can also impact our sense of well-being. Color Therapy uses color to balance Chakras that are out of harmony. Crystals and gemstones accomplish this and so much more with their added ability to cleanse, energize and replenish the Chakras, plus their specific properties that cover a wide rage of benefits including emotional and physical healing. In many cases the mineralogical aspect is at work. A person could be drawn to Hematite because they need iron. Our skin is our largest organ and absorbs the content of stones easily when we hold or wear them. While we do not suggest that crystals replace traditional medicine, the reality is that mankind has been using gemstones in many ways beyond ornamentation for as long as history has been around to record it. As a student of Native American teachings, it became clear to me early on that a wonderful way to ground the crystal energies was with handcrafted Native American items, plus they add another level of warmth to the environment. Some of the items include beautiful stories to accompany them and offer something appealing to everyone. For a child who suffers from nightmares, the Dreamcatcher is of particular interest. The Legend of the Dreamcatcher Native Americans believe the night air is filled with dreams both good and bad. The dream catcher, when hung over or near your bed swinging freely in the air, catches the dreams as they pass. The good dreams know how to pass through the dream catcher, slipping through the center hole and sliding down the soft feathers to the sleeper below. The bad dreams, however, do not know the way through and get tangled in the dream catcher, vanishing with the first light of the new day. 6 What s Smudge got to do with it? Smudging is a Native American method of burning sacred herbs to clear negativity from an object or environment, in addition to many other things. In fact, that s only the beginning! For our purposes, this is the only way to clear negative energy of this magnitude of crystals and minerals, maintaining their natural positive energy. We even make our own blend which combines five different herbs to cover everything! Many stones can absorb energy from people touching them; clear Quartz is a good example. While Quartz does emit piezo electric current, it is also a receiver of energy, opening itself to taking on energy from people. If you ve ever wondered why people don t like others touching a crystal they are wearing - that is the reason! This is also why we smudge our shop and all the stones in it every day! 7 Pendulums Getting the Hang of It D o you really just let them hang there? Pretty much, but of course there s more to it than that! The Pendulum may be one of the very first divination tools available to the general public, with its predecessor believed to be the Divining Rod. Only certain people were believed to have the gift of being able to find water using such a tool. There was an air of mystery and awe surrounding it. The truth is, however, that anyone can do it. In fact, it s now pretty common to see people using their pendulums, when shopping, to help make decisions! Divination tools are simply bridges to knowledge which is unseen with the naked eye - a way to connect with information that most people cannot find using their normal senses. This is similar to feeling the energy in crystals. It doesn t come naturally to most of us, as we haven t been conditioned to using that sense. It s common knowledge that we are using a relatively small portion of our brains. So where does all this information come from? In my opinion, the information comes from the Akashic Record, which can be accessed from a non-physical plane of existence known as the Astral Plane. For instance, everything that has ever happened or been spoken, is there. Albert Einstein said, Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be changed from one form to another. The best analogy I can offer to explain the Astral Plane is today s use of the cloud storage space. 8 Being technologically challenged, I sure don t understand it! Now back to the pendulums. Some people believe pendulums are a simple way to communicate with the other side, including angels or spirit guides. That could be the case, however, it depends on how one is using it. I prefer to use pendulums for making simple decisions, like which crystal is best for me. I believe that the Spirit world has more important responsibilities than simply being used to retrieve information. My Spirit, which is part of me, is involved but I have no need to involve any other entities at that level. Despite my openness to metaphysics and crystals, my own inner sceptic must always be confirmed. Therefore, I understand the skepticisim of people regarding pendulums, as they tend to question themselves and wonder if they re moving it or not. The pendulum was one of my earlier divination tools. Many years ago, it came as a metal teardropshaped object on what was a string not much thicker than thread, along with a small instruction booklet. If you are a beginning, you should first ask it to show you yes, then show you no. Once those have been established, you re limited only by your own imagination. In my case, by asking simple questions that I could verify afterwards, I had the opportunity to prove they worked. Years later, one of my Native American teachers showed me a great way to use a pendulum - to feel more confident that it wasn t operating out of my own doing. She instructed me to bend my arm at my elbow, and bend my wrist downward, so that I could not move my arm or the pendulum. It was difficult at first, but it still works and dispels any notion that I am causing the pendulum to respond. As we are being used as part of this particular system, we must have our minds open to it. Today there is a wide variety of pendulums with different crystals & stones, including some with Chakra gemstones. There are even bracelets that double as pendulums! When choosing one for yourself, follow and trust your instict and select the pendulum to which you are led. Whether your selection is because of its color or the properties of a particular stone - there is no wrong way to choose a pendulum! 9 Wands Mystical Magical Practical S cepters, staffs and wands have been used throughout the ages; their meanings are almost interchangeable. They are a sign of imperial authority and are used by special officials to represent their sovereignty or power, in religious and formal government ceremonies. Over the years, in the hands of royalty and religious leaders, scepters became more ornate and were laden with gold and many gemstones. 10 the owner s status. The use of scepters dates back to ancient Greece, Rome and Egypt. The wand can be traced all the way back to Stone Age. Cave paintings have shown figures holding sticks, which may be symbolic representations of their power. Historically, wands were first seen when royalty began using wizards, mediums and magicians as advisors, however there was a great deal of mystery surrounding them. The materials and specifics of how they were made were carefully guarded secrets by the magicians who created them. In fact, unlike scepters which were proudly displayed, wands were hidden. Wands were displayed as little as possible and even concealed in the sleeves of magicians robes. Wands were believed to possess energy that could be used for many things, such as altering the weather or doing harm or good, depending on the given circumstance. Wands can be as simple as a special branch from a tree. Attaching crystals and minerals to the wand shaft became popular as more people acquired the knowledge of them. The mystique of magic surrounding wands made A wand is an extension or amplifier of energy that can be used in numerous ways their use flourish. As new materials are discovered, they are incorporated into wandmaking. Many crystals and minerals are now used to create some of the finer wands. These stones are considered by many to have energy and healing powers. A wand is an extension or amplifier of energy that can be used in numerous ways. Some wands are quite ornate, with gemstones corresponding to all the colors of the chakras running down the shaft of the wand. They can also be made of other stones or even copper with a Quartz point at the end, to further amplify its energy. The simplest of wands is the massage wand - rounded at one end for massage and with more of a point at the other end for acupressure. These wands are generally made out of one stone. The stone choices are plentiful so the massage therapist can choose the stone best suited for the particular work they are doing or the patient on whom they are working. As practitioners of various healing modalities have developed, so have the tools they have integrated into their practices, including the channeling of energy with the use of wands. 11 The Crystal Grid A crystal grid is a geometric grouping of crystals and gemstones around a central stone, working synergistically toward a particular purpose by linking together energetically, activated and focused with the power of intention. 11

12 G ridding is quickly becoming the most popular aspect of the World of Crystals. It is certainly the most frequently requested workshop. What s not to love? They are beautiful and creative with virtually unlimited designs as well as purposes! The most popular grids are love, prosperity, healing and one to maintain a positive, serene space to come home to. One fun way to use that last grid is to send that energy to your place of work to keep the environment there more peaceful as well. Our grids are quite unique since it was Bill Strydesky who started creating them in our rock shop in DC over 25 years ago. As an artist and visionary with an understanding of Sacred Geometry he is a natural when it comes to grids. They are elegant, focused & most importantly effective. He can also get quite complex at times, however a grid doesn t need to be complicated to accomplish its goal. For example, one can start with a simple 4 direction grid which I call a Medicine Wheel grid and over time build from there. We like to start with a central stone, I prefer a Clear Quartz generator but a sphere could also be used. Quartz is my preference because it can be programed quite specifically. Programing is another whole topic which requires more than a mention so, for now, we will stay on topic. The other way to go is with a central stone which possesses the properties and emits the energy that one needs to accomplish the goal they have in mind. For example, an Emerald sphere would make a great central stone for a prosperity grid. We then generally use a combination of tumbled stones that naturally have the properties that add to the overall energy and purpose desired for the grid. These stones do not need to be tumbled however there is a wide variety of tumbled stones to choose from. Additionally, one will need a number of points, preferably quartz, at least 4 to start with for this particular type of grid. Points add another whole level of focus & direction to the grid that is indispensable. It s important for the points to be similar in size and shape for a balanced energy. 12 Crystal Awakenings

13 Also, the points don t have to be Quartz but because Quartz is both a receiver and an emitter of energy as well as versatile, it s generally my go to crystal for gridding points. Like the central stone and the others, it s possible to find points that naturally have the properties & energy that one is looking to project. However, finding them or Quartz, for that matter, in groups that match would be quite challenging. That is why at Gifu we have put together small bags of various matched crystals in groups from 4-6 per bag. There s much more to gridding than can be explained in brief but this overview can give you the general idea. The stones listed below are some good examples to use when creating your own grids. Apache Tear: A very special form of Black Obsidian, Apache Tears are grounding and good for searching within for answers in The Void during mediation. They are, however, special in other ways too. Since they are transparent, they bring an element of light to the darkness. As they naturally connect with the Earth Star Chakra, they carry the light all the way down to that Chakra and connect beautifully with the loving energy of Mother Earth. Apache Tears also have the ability to transmute negativity instead of absorbing it. Aventurine, green: A healing and energizing Heart Chakra stone that opens one up to new adventures and good fortune! It encourages mental clarity and a positive attitude with a balancing energy that is strengthening and protective of the heart. Bloodstone: It is a wonderful all-round healing stone that changes color as it gives you its energy when you need it. Keep an eye on it though, as you ll want to allow it to replenish itself from time to time, lest it give you its all! A great way to cleanse and re-energize your stones simultaneously is by placing them gently on a Quartz Crystal Cluster. Citrine: A natural gem quality, Citrine is the perfect solar Plexus stone for strengthening personal power, while balancing it with intellectual illumination from the Divine. Citrine helps you embrace creative ideas and put them into positive action. Like the morning sun, it is warm and inspiring! Emerald: Emerald is helpful in sustaining loving relationships, as well as aiding in mental acuity. It is also a wonderful healing stone, especially for the heart and lungs. 18 Sharon Willick The Crystalist The first stone that spoke to me was a lovely, unassuming Moss Agate pendant. At that moment, I didn t think too much about it except that I had to have it, something that had never happened to me before. Prior to that I didn t even care about jewelry. That was about 25 years ago and I ve been playing and working with crystals ever since! After that, however, it was as though I d been awakened to a whole new world and I became an avid collector of crystals, minerals and gemstones especially Quartz Crystals. It took their powerful energy to get my attention! At that point I decided that where crystals were concerned, I was going to let go of any preconceived ideas or logic and just go with it. I began reading about them too but mostly just going by what spoke to me, which is to say that when I picked up a particular stone and felt a palpable physiological reaction, I would get that one. It was really fun to then look it up & see how intuitive my selection had been. What I love most about crystals, minerals and gemstones is how simple and direct they are. They do what they do regardless of whether we re aware of their properties or not, they just work. Our experience of them however is expanded tremendously when we choose to consciously participate with them. Understanding why we are drawn to a particular stone at a certain time and learning all the great ways to use them opens up a world that is as fun as it is rewarding. For instance, being drawn to Rose Quartz could signal a need, for self-nurturing and work with one s inner child and self-esteem. Simply wearing them is a great way to work with them too.
