11 What is Reiki? Reiki is an ancient Japanese non-invasive healing technique. The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words Rei (ray) and Ki (kee). Rei, as it is used in Reiki can be defined as the Higher Intelligence that guides the creation and functioning of the Universe. Rei is a subtle wisdom that permeates everything both animate and inanimate. On a human level, it is available to help us in times of need and to act as a source of guidance in our lives. Because of its infinite nature, it is all-knowing. The word Ki means the same as Chi in Chinese. Ki is the non-physical energy that permeates all living things. Ki is flowing, is everything that is alive including plants, animals, and humans. We receive Ki from the air we breathe from the food we eat, from sunshine, and from sleep. It is possible to increase our Ki by using breathing exercises and meditation. Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual Healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and always creates a beneficial effect, not only in humans, but in all living beings! It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery. A Reiki treatment feels like a wonderful soft-glowing radiance that flows through and around you.
