1 2018 EarthFire Traditional Vision Quest The most incredible experience of my life and the most impacting has left me truly a different person. Douglas Caputo, questor Vision Quest, the ancient practice of Self-discovery, has survived the millennia for one reason: it works! Many cultures have used the Quest as a rite of passage, but the transformational power of questing extends well beyond that purpose. Questing is a tool for confronting and moving through our emotional and psychological blocks. Free of these blocks, we gain an awareness and appreciation for the gifts and talents that we can offer the world. Our life s journey is re-enlivened with the passions of the heart and we increasingly reflect the peace, perfection, and creativity of the Universe. The insights received give the seeker a sense of purpose in life, fostering a deeper contribution to culture. In fact, finding our role in society and service to others are at the core of Questing. Mystics from all of the world s major religions have used questing to connect with their Higher Selves and touch the wisdom of Silence. This ancient practice not only remains viable in today s world but is a vital tool for bringing Light into the world. The ultimate aim of the quest must be neither ecstasy nor release of the self but for the wisdom and the power to serve others. Joseph Campbell

2 To promote the deepest possible level of awareness and hear the subtle communications from our Higher Self, all distractions must be minimized. In a Traditional Vision Quest, this is accomplished by fasting from all things except water* and each questor remains alone in their quest circle for four days and nights. Facilitated questing offers guidance, protection, and support before, during, and after the solo experience. We use a communication system each day that ensures each questor s safety and privacy. To maximize the benefits of questing, our 8-day program includes time before the Quest, for preparation, as well as afterwards for reflection and guidance on understanding the experience. I gained a testimony, there in that circle, that outer does reflect inner, that we are at one with nature... I was centered in a part of myself that was prepared to accept my future as it unfolded before me one day at a time... The 2018 Traditional Vision Quest is held in cooperation with Creekside Abundance ( The quest we teach comes from Grandfather Stalking Wolf (Lipan) as passed down from Tom Brown, Jr. Grandfather s Vision, in part, was to find the common spiritual truths among the world s religions and cultures. As such, this Quest is not Lipan but, rather, a distillation of the core experience that is the Essence of a Vision Quest. All facilitators have undertaken multiple quests and each brings a unique perspective to the experience; Questors are likely to find a supportive sounding board for questions and concerns. Additionally, all have extensive training and experience in primitive technology, Earth-living skills, nature awareness, and the art of tracking. Instructors include: Matt Hansen s life-long love of nature led him to study the survival skills and philosophies of the Earth s indigenous cultures. Matt works as a forest entomologist and his involvement with EarthFire and Vision Quest facilitation is in response to the experience of his first Vision Quest. Matt studied quest protection with Karl Bear Povisils and Malcolm Ringwalt. Dawn Hansen is a long-time student of Earth-living skills and Earth-centered philosophies, and brings a strong feminine perspective to Questing. She works as a massage therapist. Her considerable experience with Vision Questing enables her to effectively support quest participants. Dawn studied quest protection with Malcolm Ringwalt. Scott DeBerard was trained in quest protection by Malcolm Ringwalt of Earth Heart. He is a licensed psychologist in Utah and a faculty member at Utah State University. Holly Stokes is passionate about helping people get clear about their life purpose, mission and vision and stepping into Confidence, Motivation and Focus. She runs a private practice in Salt Lake City utilizing Hypnosis and Neuro Linguistic Programming to help the mind change old habits and patterns such as self-criticism, mental blocks, negative thinking and self-sabotage ( She is the author of the upcoming book, Mind Traps: Rewiring the Brain Habits that Steal Our Health, Happiness and Success.
