1 Session Six TYPES OF DREAMS 1. Intrinsic Dreams - Dreams that deal with heart issues with our relationship with God. They are dreams about the dreamer (yourself). A. Heart issues pertain to matters of our soul personal longings, opinions and emotions. B. They may include things that are going to happen to us in the future. C. These types of dreams can reveal God s plan for your life that can renew a desire to fulfill God s purposes. Ex. Genesis 37, Joseph dreams about sheaves and his brothers bowing down to him. Intrinsic because the dream is about Joseph. Daniel 2 Daniel explains to Nebuchadnezzar s the interpretation of his dream as well as the purpose of the king s dream. Daniel 2:30, So that the King may know the thoughts of his heart. Hard dreams that are from God will always have hope. There are times when God will show you the thoughts of your heart, habits that need to be changed, attitudes that need to changed, points of view that need to be altered, etc. 2. Extrinsic dreams - Dreams that focus on something, or someone other than ourselves. A. Examples include people, nations, cities, and churches. B. Only 1% - 5% of most people s dreams are extrinsic in nature. Prophetic people will be around 20%. C. The greater our intimacy with the Lord, the more extrinsic dreams we will have. He tells his secrets to his servants.

2 Perhaps if we have been disciplined enough to deal with the things in us, then we will be disciplined enough to keep the secrets that he tells us. Truth is more than fact, it includes motive. If we share more than what God tells us, we have moved from truth to fact. The Spirit of Truth will not bare witness with fact. What you say to others must have God s motive behind it. Don t take a sentence and make it a book. Example: Genesis 41, Pharaoh dreams about the 7 fat cows and 7 lean cows, had to do with feast and famine for the Land of Egypt. BASIC DREAM INTERPRETATION A dream that is not interpreted is a mere occurrence, when understood; a dream becomes a life- changing experience. Know that types and symbols do NOT always mean the same from dream to dream. Reduce the dream to its simplest form. Ask the following: Where am I? Am I an observer, a participant, or the main focus? Observer - Watching what is going on, you may be watching through another person s eyes, you may be looking down on what is happening, you are not the focus of the dream, the dream is not about you. Participating - Helping in a group activity, but you are not the only one involved, it affects not only you, but also others. Find the principle of the dream and you will find the meaning.

3 1. Main Focus: everything revolves around you. You are the principle actor, decision maker, the principle person that the dream is about. Sometimes you can shift from one of these to the other. If you don t find the focus of the dream, you won t be able to reduce it to its simplest form. If you don t find the focus, you won t be able to fully interpret the dream. This is the first step in interpreting a dream. To find the focus we ask: A. Who is the dream about? B. What is the dream about? C. What is the center of attention? If I were removed from the dream, would the dream still happen? Would the meaning fall apart? If yes, then you are the focus. 2. Sub- focus - Someone or something that will have impact on the focus. Do not confuse sub- focus with the focus. Sub- focus - The elements of the dream that are necessary to find the theme or plot for it to have meaning. They lead directly to the focus. There are usually 3-4 sub- focuses in a dream. If you get more than that, the dream will start to lose meaning and the interpretation gets too complex and starts falling apart. Often when we ignore the detail, the dream becomes clearer. If it does not affect the focus directly, it is not a sub- focus. 3. Detail - refers to items in the dream that are really not important to the coherence or meaning of the dream.

4 Look at the context of the dream, remembering that there are two sides to the details. 1. Keep the main thing the main thing. 2. Determine the attitude and agendas of those in the dream. 3. Note emotions people in the dream felt. 4. Note things people in the dream feared 5. Determine the tone of the dream. i.e., harsh, hope, peace, etc. Context determines the positive or negative nature of the dream. BASIC TERMINOLOGY Vehicles represent your ministry. House represents your life. Insects represent demonic attributes. Faceless people represent angels. These are simply guides to help direct you to the meaning. Again, it is listening to the Lord that brings the interpretation. It is very important to listen to the words used to describe the dream. Many times there are clues in the way it is told to you that define the attributes of the dream. It will determine the emotion and context of the dream. Spectrums of Light: God is light. God said, Let there be light. There is both eternal light and created light. Color is brought to life through a prism by the use of light. There are seven colors in a rainbow. There are seven spirits of God. Rev. 4:5, Rev. 5:6

5 An atom is composed of electrons, protons, neutrons and electrons. These are made up of quarks. Quarks are made up of gluons, which have been described as color and anti color moving in and out or the quark. Color is produced through light. Therefore, everything created is made up of light. Color is important to God. There are three primary colors red, blue and green. There are three parts to the trinity. There are three spectrums of light: Additive color spectrum Subtractive color spectrum Artistic color spectrum In the additive color wheel there are the three primary colors, three secondary colors and when light passes through all the colors at once, they combine to produce white light. There are seven colors in all. Only the additive spectrum produces white light. It radiates color. Subtractive color spectrum has the same colors as the additive spectrum, only in exact opposite orders. The primary colors become the secondary colors. Therefore when you add them all together the produces black.

7 Artist color spectrum: Absorbs Color (Flesh) Adding all the colors creates a dark brown that is almost black. The three spectrum colors represent the three parts of man. They could also represent the three chambers of the tabernacle. There were 12 stones of different color on the breast plate of the high priest, Exodus 28, the tabernacles coverings were 12 bright colors, exodus 26, so was the stones built into the New Jerusalem. There are 12 basic hues in the color wheels. There are 24 colors on a color wheel, there were 26 elders worshiping around the throne. Is the color wheel indicative of God who is light? Just a thought.
