Jung a great service in putting together the most comprehensive collection of quotations from various of Jung writings. Newly published, The Quotable Jung, is now in print through Princeton University Press, as of There have been so many different occasions when I searched through many different books looking for just the right quote to enhance an article or idea I was working on. This volume of quotations is a time-saver and gem to have handy on your desk. Harris offers hundreds of quotations organized thematically, with citations from various sources such as Jung s books, essays, correspondence, lectures, seminars, interviews, as well as the Red Book. Harris began her collection of quotes by Jung as a student, engaging in a kind of mapping of Jung s ideas, never realizing that with today s digital support, she would be able to offer to readers a way of creating context regarding Jung s ideas, depending on one s interest, or inclination to explore different themes and topics.

2 The collection covers such topic areas as the psyche, the symbolic life, dreams, the analytic process, good and evil, creativity, alchemical transformation, death and rebirth, the problem of the opposites, and more. There are eighteen different topic areas delineated, and the reader can choose randomly or with intention to delve into subjects like Jung and Culture, Body and Soul. On page 144 in Jung and Culture, the reader finds Jung s quote, The coming age will be as vastly different from ours as the world of the 19 th Century was from that of the 20 th with its atomic physics and its psychology of the unconscious. Never before has mankind been torn into two halves, and never before was the power of absolute destruction given into the hand of man himself. It is a godlike power that has fallen into human hands. Right behind it, you find the citation, Letter to Pater Lucas Menz, O.S.B., 22 February Letters, Vol.II, p.225. Reference and resource could not be easier. Once again, new perspectives can be gathered regarding Jung s ideas as the reader looks to the variety in his thoughts and ideas about various subject areas. It is very accessible and succinct when one is searching for both an essential quote and/or citation to amplify articles, case studies, or research. It can be read sequentially, or opened by theme or by simple curiosity, finding pages and words that speak to soul, psyche and spirit. Her book also offers a detailed chronology of Jung s life and work, and can easily be recommended for those new to the ideas in Jungian psychology. It will offer a grounded approach to Jung s ideas, particularly those that focused on discovering meaning in life. It is a resource to be kept near at hand for those interested in explaining and exploring Jung s psychology. I will find it easy to recommend this book to students trying to expand their understanding of Jung s seminal ideas. Judith Harris is President of the Philemon Foundation as well as a supervising and training analyst at ISAPZURICH, and a senior analyst at the Ontario Association for Jungian Analysts. She is also the author of Jung and Yoga: The Psyche-Body Connection. Judith Harris was instrumental and supportive in helping to get the Red Book to publication as well as very involved with the Marion Woodman Foundation for a number of years, both as Founding member of the Foundation and as teaching faculty for Body/Soul Intensives.

4 About the artist: MARGARET HUMPHRIS, MFA, MSW, LCSW-BACS, CST is an analytically oriented therapist and sandplay therapist on the senior staff of the Mental Health Service at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. She is a Certified Member of Sandplay Therapists of America and the International Society for Sandplay Therapy and has been practicing sandplay therapy for fifteen years. She is a founding member and past president of the C.G. Jung Society of Baton Rouge. Margaret Humphris is also a professional artist and long standing member of the Baton Rouge Gallery.
