Vernal by Angus Walters Upon a bough In the mountains high Is a crop of snow Though spring is nigh. To this loft No sun rays shine-- The icy soft Hangs on the pine.

3 Vernal by Angus Walters Upon a bough In the mountains high Is a crop of snow Though spring is nigh. To this loft No sun rays shine-- The icy soft Hangs on the pine. The equinox Will come and go, But the pallid mound Will not know. Smells of life Will reach it soon; Not far beneath Songbirds swoon. Spring, it thinks, Is here at last! But the icy sore Still clutches fast. It cannot break The winter s spell To melt away To some lowland dell. But now it comes! Fierce and wild: A storm to shape Old winter s child. The winds arise From southern glades, As skies are wrought Into heavy shades. How timber shutters, And branches shake! Here at last, The will does break. 4 Beneath the oaks and willows... by Jackson Sinnott Beneath the oaks and willows they strode Swords drawn, no option to flee Their final journey down the perilous road Toward an enemy they could not see Glass by Henry Briggs On a table of liquid glass, a body burns from a fire glowing within, a pulse throbs with the rhythm of the race, a mind squirms under the closing jaws of despair. On a table of liquid glass, darkness falls with the beads of rain, foam splashes with the shattering crests of blackened waves, sweat rolls with the wooden arms of the boat. Above a table of liquid glass, clouds part for but an instant, sun shines for but a moment, hope and strength returns for a time. 5 You bring the summer into my life... by Laura Withrow You bring the summer into my life. Filling me up, Enlightening and igniting me into a dazzling and dizzy haze. There s a fire in your eyes. An undying fluorescent light that burns so brightly. An endless beauty that constantly draws me near. Inner effervescence that is as infinite as the vast and ominous ocean. You are the light of my life, the fire of my soul, my muse. With every breath of pure life that your inner desires crave, that makes you reach for more. The glorious and glamorous delirium of a dream in which I never want to wake. A blissful euphoria that entices me endlessly. With the tempting translucence of your lips. A sweet vibrant addictiveness that slowly devours my every thought. A beautiful stream of thoughts that flow with a dreamy tranquil comfort that enchant me in an angelic manner. With a mystic glow that beams from every pore of your being. A laughter that is as enticing and whimsical as the summer wind. You are as bright and brilliant as the illuminated starry night sky. With every breath taking moment my love for you grows. Kaleidoscope of Light and Memories by Laura Withrow A rush of summer wind, Light shines in my eyes, Blinds me momentarily. As I regain my vision, My eyes are filled with something else. Images of sunlight bouncing playfully off her hair. Sparkling and shining. Emerald leaves rustle and reflect the pools of her eyes. Spinning me into a dizzy. Dazzling me with beauty and bliss. There is a vibrant light in her eyes, Wild and free. Her laughter reminds me of childhood, Innocent and pure. A smile cracks her porcelain skin to show her enchanting smile. She dances in rays of light reflecting the effervescence of her spirit. Igniting a flame in my soul. Engulfing me in her trance. She is a dream and I never want to wake up. She is my savior. A breath of fresh life. 8 9

6 Blue Umbrella by Preston Tice Swirly, whirly, curly clouds drift through the night sky shifting, running, and prancing to their own sigh I walk and listen to them sing their bluesy tone while my cat sits, and rumbles her moany groan Sister by Meaghan Marohn I peer across the hills to forever and beyond to the cloudy edge of which I am fond they tell my story through in and throughout and my umbrella saves me from their screaming shout my thoughts are the blue blowing wind whilst my perception digs within to see color dance to the wind s howl I feel my bruise, the white, between sky and ground Refuse to let your word of mouth be a bullet by Emmaline Cook refuse to let your word of mouth be a bullet everything you say will have a consequence good or bad what you say is who you are everything we do is bound to leave a scar success is measured in the scars we leave good or bad what you do is who you become our actions must be thought through it only takes a little good to affect just a few taking time to think simply allows the mind to blink take the time to stop and pause figure out who you are what is your cause refuse to let what defines you be something horrid let your word of mouth be all that you wish to be This is a little girl. She claims she does not Want to be, that she is not A little girl. But isn t she? The way her cheeks are So soft. The way her eyes Light up at the mention of Puppies. The way she won t Refuse a chocolate chip cookie. But isn t she? She likes to hang out with Her teenage sister. She Likes to jump on her When she sleeps in. So isn t she? She is a little girl.
