Karuna Reiki Master/Teacher and Guest Writer Eric W. Evans authored the principal article entitled Shamanism and Reiki and Psychopomp and Reiki. In this article, Eric declares himself to be a Shamanist explaining that the suffix ist means being selftaught through spirits, workshops and through past life recall. As an example, Eric recounts a healing of a woman with a uterine infection. He says, I relaxed into an altered state and willed part of my spirit into her body The image that came to me was that I was inside a chamber. He goes on to explain that by scraping the walls of this chamber and disposing of the refuse and then applying Reiki, the chamber turned a healthy pink. This successful journey was confirmed later when the woman went to her doctor who found no trace of infection. Although many books have been written on shamanism, Eric tells us none of them tell how to journey. However, he does recommend The Way of the Shaman by Michael Harner, the founder of The Foundation for Shamanic Studies, a world-wide organization. Eric suggests that the best place to 1 start is with workshops or with a teacher. In the ensuing seven years, much has occurred in the study and practice of Reiki. As a reminder, let us restate that Reiki has a consciousness of its own and that Reiki itself is the Ultimate Teacher. Looking back and after some serious thought, I ve personally come to the realization and concluded that true Reiki is a shamanic journey. Cases in point: the recent emergence of Holy Fire Reiki and Dragon Fire Healing. The operative word in each is fire. We most often think of fire as being destructive; however, the true nature of fire is transitional and cleansing. Both of these new practices came about through journeying, either through guided imagery or meditation which are shamanic practices. Oh, I can already hear the dissenters: This is NOT true Reiki! The Traditionalists may argue that Dr. Usui or Mrs. Takata would not approve. I agree that Mrs. Takata may take a dim view of new practices, but I think Usui Sensei would disagree his initial 21-day fast and meditation and the receiving of Reiki was a Shamanic Journey! This conclusion is supported by Jim PathFinder Ewing a Cherokee Reiki Master in his book Reiki Shamanism: A Guide to Out-of-Body Healing. (2008) Continued on page 3,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

3 Continued from page 1.. If we consider the evolution of our beloved Reiki, we cannot help but notice that it is never stagnant never remains the same. Reiki is in constant flux growing, expanding, stretching beyond its original form. The vehicle for this growth, expansion and stretch can only be created in our higher consciousness. As we raise our consciousness through self-realization, contemplation and meditation as well as prayer, we plow the field, so to speak, to nurture and develop a new concept of Reiki and ourselves as Reiki Practitioners.we transition into Holy Fire Karuna Reiki Practitioners or Karuna Reiki Practitioners/Dragon Fire Healers, adding a new dimension to who we are. Llyn Roberts and Robert Levy also published their book, Shamanic Reiki: Expanding Ways of Working With Universal Life Force Energy in (Must have been a year of epiphany.) Their training and accomplishments listed in About the Authors are truly awesome! The preface to their many endorsements reads: For the first time in print, shamanic techniques are introduced that healers and Reiki practitioners can draw on to tap ancient healing wisdom. Shamanism and Reiki are, by themselves, powerful ways to heal. Together, their power multiplies. Together their power multiplies is a statement to which both Eric and I can attest. Eric wrote in his 2008 article, The few times I have had the opportunity to use Reiki and Shamanism. It was very successful. For me, becoming a Shamanic Reiki Practitioner was a slow process. It seems that what I wasn t taught, I instinctively knew or remembered. In conclusion, I, we, would have to say, even Shamanic Reiki is not the end. There is always more more to learn, more to understand, and more to promote spiritual growth and a higher consciousness. And what is its purpose? The Highest Good of All. My wonderful granddaughter, Sam, was here a few weeks ago and she expressed a desire to learn more about what I have dedicated my life to and teach. Sam accompanied me to my birthday party and took part in a guided imagery meditation led by our own Eric Evans. It was quite a moving experience for her. On Tuesday, she experienced a Dragon Fire Reiki treatment with the Karuna Reiki Master Teachers/ Dragon Fire Healers that meet once a week. Before she left on Friday evening, we had wonderful sessions on Dragon Fire Healing and after the required three meditations she had her first DFH attunement. Later, she had her second DFH attunement and then experienced the Dragon Fire final Meditation. Now, it is our experience that not all participants receive a healing dragon. Some seem to have to wait until they have absorbed the teaching, the attunements, and the primary and Dragon Fire meditations. Not my Sam! She said, Grandma, is it usual to see a dragon (with the last meditation)? I told her some do and some have to wait a while and practice their new power. I shared with her how I received my Master Dragon, Brian. (I couldn t pronounce his real name) Also, that some of us have more than one. In conclusion, I have to say that Dragon Fire Healers energy has a pristine quality that is unique to this wonderful healing practice. In retrospect, it is like traveling back in time to the beginning of mankind as healers Marcia L. 4 The RM! Review... REIKI MAGIC! reviews books and periodicals and materials that are of interest to Reiki Practitioners. Book Review in Retro SHAMANIC REIKI Roberts, Llyn and Levy, Robert Winchester, UK: O Books, 2008 Shamanic Reiki attempts the difficult task of synthesizing two quite diverse energy healing systems, namely shamanic healing and Reiki. Primarily, this benefits Reiki practitioners by giving them a framework to better understand the healing process and to experience this process in a way that is much more immediate than they might be able to otherwise. Shamanism is not merely the oldest form of both spirituality and spiritual healing; it is also a living tradition that is alive and thriving among many indigenous people around the world. What it shares in common with Reiki is an understanding that material reality is merely a superficial manifestation of an underlying energy matrix; i.e., Reiki. This universal wisdom-bliss energy or Reiki is accessed by all energy healers as they understand it, whether they understand it as seeking knowledge or power through a shamanic journey or whether they understand (Reiki) as Mikao Usui, Sensei, taught. Overall, this reader finds Shamanic Reiki successful in achieving its goal. However, that is not to say that this book is completely without fault. At 180 pages, this book leaves the reader regretting its brevity. Shamanism, its beliefs, techniques, and technologies, is a topic that could easily fill volumes. As a text that acts as an interface between shamanic healing methodology and Reiki, Shamanic Reiki is an excellent introduction to a synthesis that can hardly be considered the final word. One can only hope the authors produce a follow-up soon. Secondly, given that several of the more common shamanic techniques such as accessing elemental power and shape-shifting, are described in detail, one might have hoped for a section on practical exercises to develop these skills. Finally, Shamanic Reiki, as an instruction to shamanic healing techniques, 4 unfortunately includes discussion of some advanced techniques, such as removing energy intrusions. These are potentially hazardous practices that should not be attempted by anyone who hasn t received adequate training from an experienced shaman. 5 Pendulum 102 Aligning the Chakras Using Two Pendulums In Volume 16 Issue 1 (Spring 2014) Reiki Magic offered our readers Pendulum 101: Aligning the Chakras. In that article Reiki Practitioners learned about: Choosing a Pendulum Taking Care of Your Pendulum Balancing Chakras (Using natural pairs) The Last Word (Can you balance your own chakras?) The Karuna Reiki Master Teachers/Dragon Fire Healers have been working on a technique using two pendulums. During our recent weekly sessions, we have been practicing chakra balancing using these two pendulums. Although surprisingly effective, It is quite difficult for a single practitioner. For example, let s say, while testing the viability of the seven major chakras plus the Eighth Chakra located a few inches to possibly a foot above the Crown Chakra, the Reiki Practitioner finds the Sacral Chakra weak, indicated by a smaller circle of energy. The natural partner of the Sacral Chakra is the Throat Chakra, according to Ruth White, author of Working With Your Chakras, A Physical, Emotional, and Spiritual Approach. Using two pendulums of approximate equal size and weight, the Reiki Practitioner positions the two pendulums over the paired chakras and focuses attention between the two, stilling the breath and mind, and letting go of outcome. Patience is a necessary ingredient in chakra balancing. Also necessary is letting go of outcome. Remember, this technique is not about you it is about your receiver. The Reiki consciousness is naturally stronger than most non -Reiki persons it is possible for the practitioner to will the pendulum to respond to your expectations rather than allow the pendulum to do its own work. When both pendulums situated over the 5 paired chakras indicate a yes response about the same size and strength for several seconds we consider that to be a restart. The Reiki Practitioner may want to recheck all the eight chakras again to verify this finding. Another chakra balancing technique the Karuna Reiki Master Teachers/Dragon Fire Healers are working on utilizes a relatively unused pair the Hara and the Eighth Chakra. The Hara is located in the auric field between the Sacral and Solar Plexus Chakras.The first task is to locate its position both vertically and horizontally with your dominant pendulum. The Eighth Chakra (also called the Chakra of the Higher Self the tenth Chakra in Shamanic Healing; and also called The Star Gate in other healing modalities) is found above the Crown Chakra (two inches to about a foot) and has a halo of a whitish gold. This technique requires two Practitioners; one to focus on the Hara and the other to focus on the Eighth Chakra. As with all chakra balancing, one of the Practitioners begins with testing with a dominant pendulum the eight chakras. These should be in alignment/balance prior to the next step. Next, each Practitioner with their pendulums in hand, focus on their intended target. The goal is to have each Chakra performing at a high level and both Chakras working together (Their energy circles about the same size and synchronized.) We have found this technique useful when the receiver is recovering from illness or surgery, fatigue, or trauma. A Final Note: Becoming proficient in Chakra Balancing is a very useful tool for Reiki Practitioners. It does, however, lend itself well as an addition to any healing modality. Using pendulums is not the only way to balance our energy wheels, By placing appropriate symbols in the palms of each hand, placing your hands on the Chakra pairs, a skilled Practitioner can effect almost the same results on yourself. In Reiki I, I inform students how to locate the Tanden: stand straight and begin to bend your knees while keeping your back straight. The place where you begin to feel tension is the Tanden. Now breathe into the Tanden and hold that energy imagining the energy you are holding spreading throughout your body energizing you. Now release your breath imaging that the breath is also coming out your fingertips, your toes and the chakras of your hands and feet. In Tai Chi and Qigong, the tongue is pressed in the hollow of the roof of your mouth when inhaling and released at exhale. This is how we become Clear Channels, say Usui, Sensei. We also can share this breathing technique with our receivers prior to treatment. 6 Available now..
