1 From the President By the time you read this, we will already have said goodbye to Rev. Cheryl as our minister, wishing her all the best as she moves on to her next adventures, feeling sad to see her go and feeling good in the knowledge that her work for Unity's Northwest Region will, of course, benefit us here in Yakima. What a fantastic retirement party we gave her! I still see the beautiful decorations, the array of delicious food and marvel at the organization behind it all. I rejoice that we gave Rev. Cheryl such a good send-off. And I rejoice in the amazing community that we are. Dear fellow congregants, give yourselves a round of applause for the way you all come together, not just on this occasion, but on many others, to create an event full of love and celebration! Now we move onward with the same can-do spirit, the same love and commitment, into this time of great opportunity to start the process of selecting our new minister. Meanwhile the month of May is well covered with speakers for our Sunday services and all our weekly programs continuing as usual. And the first weekend of June will see the visit of our Transitional Consultant from Unity Worldwide Ministries, Rev Denese Schellink, who will help launch us into our search and guide us in the process. Is this all scary? You bet! Is this exciting? Well, yes! And are we moving into the green, growing edge of our own becoming? Yes, yes and yes again! I am so proud and grateful to be part of this wonderful community and see us flourishing now and in the coming months. We are called by a loving God to claim our divinity; to honor each person as God s beloved; to grow in spiritual understanding; and to transform our world through service. Together, we create a community that reflects God s love. Unity Spiritual Life Center is a community that love is building. If you have a suggestion for a good speaker let them know. May 6 Rev. Victoria Etchemendy (retired from Unity at West Linn, OR) A Season of Change Marianne Williamson says in her bestseller book The Gift of Change In the Christmas carol where we sing Do you see what I see? there is a deeper question being asked. Do you see what I see reflects to a question of consciousness, as in, do you see a new spiritual reality developing in our midst. In a time of Change it is always good to ask ourselves what do I see as our greatest challenges and our greatest gifts. In a community built on Love how do we open our hearts together to a new spirituality developing in our ministry. May 13 Patrick Graham What is this Thing Called Love? Motherhood is an amazing opportunity to affect the lives of souls born into this time. Although we all have mothers, not all of us will get to give birth to a child on the physical plane. On the other hand, the nurturing and guidance that are associated with motherhood can be accomplished by everyone on the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual planes. May 20 Rob Leaming Can You Spare Some Change? An open minded person can with logic, change perspective and with courage initiate change. We discuss a few lessons learned from nature to help us recognize change as opportunity for growth. May 27 Marilyn Freed Faith, Belief and Knowing We all live by faith. It is an attitude toward life, a feeling about life. And it is not so much a matter of the mind as of the heart. When our dreams seem to go amiss and our prayers seem to be unanswered, faith is a vision of life that takes us beyond the limitations of self.

4 Financial Report April Operating Income: $9,998 Expenses: $9,145 Budgeted: $9800 We gratefully share what we receive! Unity believes in the spiritual practice of tithing. As we share our income with others, we also generously receive. In April, we tithed 10% of our income to: Unity Worldwide Ministries, Unity NW Region, Silent Unity, Unity of Roseburg and Jim Blake, of Unity World Headquarters The office will be closed on Monday, May 28 Youth Ministry Annual BBQ & 50/50 Raffle is Sunday, June 3rd! Don t miss this fun event! For only $5 you get a BBQ hotdog (veggie dogs available), baked beans, salad, dessert and a bottled water. Your support of this event helps send our youth at Unity to camp save the date. A note to congregants and friends: It s time to clean out your closets and garage for items we can sell at our Annual Rummage Sale! Annual Rummage Sale SATURDAY, JUNE 9 th at UNITY SPIRITUAL LIFE CENTER Begin saving your treasures now! We will need many volunteers the first week of June to help put on this fundraising event.
